⚧️ Training Session on “Gender Roles”
Another important learning topic among the 15 learning topics covered in the 13th Participatory Community Development Training Course at PAKA was “Gender Roles.” Exploring this topic gave our young participants an opportunity to reflect on the different roles we see in our families, communities, and society. They explored whether these roles are naturally determined or whether they are shaped and defined over time by society, culture, and social expectations.
Through group discussions, sharing experiences, exchanging perspectives, and participatory activities, participants explored the roles of women and men from different perspectives and dimensions.
For community development practitioners, understanding gender roles is especially important. It helps us listen to the voices of people from different groups, recognize diverse needs and experiences, and design development work that creates more meaningful opportunities for participation.

At PAKA, we believe that developing young people into leaders is not only about teaching leadership skills, but also about creating opportunities for young people to learn about society from different perspectives from understanding communities and listening to people’s voices, to understanding diversity, human rights, equality, communication, teamwork, research, problem analysis, and designing solutions that are appropriate to each context.
On Friday, 18 September 2026, we were pleased to welcome a special guest from the Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS (APLPlusLaos) to share about the association’s work and its active contribution to supporting society. They also shared knowledge with our young people about HIV, HIV prevention, and self-care.
The session also focused on helping young people understand the importance of reducing discrimination, stigma, and prejudice against people living with HIV. This helped young people reflect on their own beliefs, understanding, and attitudes, while learning that good development should create space for everyone to participate and live together happily in society. Therefore, this learning exchange was another important learning experience for our young people.

One of the excellent Action Project activities from CLYLP Cohort 2025!
We are pleased to highlight the action project of Khamkhoun, a CLYLP Cohort 2025 participant who works with the Intellectual Disability Association. Following his learning and experience through the Sustainable Development module of Cambodia Laos Young Leaders Programme, Khamkhoun developed an Action Project entitled: “Family-Centered IEP Co-Design for Inclusive Education” 🎓🤝 The project focuses on promoting more inclusive education through the co-design of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), bringing families and relevant stakeholders together to better understand and respond to the individual learning needs of children with disabilities.
The Action Project has continued through a series of learning activities and collaborative sessions, providing opportunities for families and stakeholders to share experiences, exchange knowledge, and work together in designing more inclusive and individualized education approaches.
This is a great example of how learning from CLYLP can be translated into practical action and contribute to positive change within communities.

“A good team is not a team where everyone thinks the same, but a team that can bring everyone’s differences together to work towards the same goal.” 🤝🌱
Here are some moments from the Teamwork Skills learning session of the 13th Participatory Community Development Young Leaders Training at PAKA.
📚 Key topics covered during the session included:
1. The difference between a “Group” and a “Team”
2. Key elements of a good team
3. Benefits of teamwork
4. Communication and giving feedback within a team
5. The 5 Together theory
6. Problem-solving and conflict management
7. Team Building – techniques for building a strong team
8. Inclusive & Safe Space – creating an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard, so that all team members feel comfortable sharing their ideas, opinions, questions, and experiences openly.
What the students learned from this activity does not end in the classroom or remain only as theory. Teamwork is a practical skill that can be applied in real life in learning, at work, in community activities, and when working with people from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Exchange experiences - Build connections - Co-create ideas 🤝
On Saturday, 12 September 2026, PAKA hosted the “PAKA Youth Exchange” at the PAKA Office. The activity was organized as part of the My Younger Sister’s Future Project, led by Ms. Se Thao from Sisterhood for Development, cohort 2024 of the Cambodia Laos Young Leaders Programme.
The Youth Exchange created a meaningful space for young Hmong women, who are the target group of the My Younger Sister’s Future Project, to meet and exchange experiences with participants of PAKA’s 13th Participatory Community Development Training Course.
Through interactive activities, including a World Café session on Youth Leadership & Community Advocacy and a Co-design Solution & Group Presentation workshop, participants shared their experiences, perspectives, and ideas on youth leadership, youth participation, and community development.
Beyond learning and sharing, the activity also provided an opportunity for the young Hmong women and PAKA trainees to get to know each other, build friendships, develop connections, and explore opportunities for future collaboration. 🤝🌱
🎯 Objectives of the Workshop
1. To exchange lessons, experiences, and perspectives on youth work and community development.
2. To build networks and friendships between young Hmong women and PAKA trainees.
3. To create a space for mutual learning and knowledge sharing among young people from different backgrounds.
4. To encourage young people to share ideas, work together, and co-create solutions to challenges in their communities.
