FARA-RIM survey of the Nickel Rim South deposit, Sudbury, Canada.
Nickel Rim South, situated in the Sudbury Basin, is a nickel, copper and precious metal deposit.
The Basin, a result of a significant meteorite impact, features complex geological structures including layered norites, gabbros, and breccias, known for their rich sulfide mineralization. This mineralization typically occurs along contact zones within these formations, making the area highly prospective for exploration.
The FARA System was employed to explore and delineate sulfide mineralization. The system creates detailed resistivity maps of the subsurface, revealing conductive zones indicative of potential sulfide deposits. This approach was crucial for understanding the complex geology of the Sudbury Basin. The FARA System provided several key insights at Nickel Rim South and has also served as the basis for the development of an initial model of the deposit.

Two-way surveys as a quality assurance of the FARA-RIM results
The question of quality and reliability of results is one of the main issues in geophysics at all times. Radio-imaging mapping (RIM) is fortunate in this respect because it has an almost 100% quality control method. After a one-way survey, the transmitter and receiver boreholes are swapped, resulting in two completely independent data sets that can be processed separately. The degree of similarity of the results is a reliable indicator of data quality.
The figure shows the results for a panel in which the receiver is only in the right borehole, only on the left borehole, and the result for the full data set.

Contouring of mineralized zone in sublayer, Sudbury, Canada.
FARA-RIM successfully copes with a wide range of exploration tasks, among which an important place is occupied by clarification of the position and extent of the intersected by drilling zones of mineralization. The example shows how accurately FARA was able to identify the extent of mineralization in the contact zone, which was confirmed by test drilling. A previously unknown conductive zone was also detected, which, as it turned out, corresponds to a mineralized area of crush saturated with saline water.
