Grant Thornton Cayman National Men's XV Player - James Priaulx

Cayman has been my home since I was 2 years old, which in effect means it is the only home that I can remember. I went away to high school, university and law school, and spent the majority of my time, in UK for the best part of 12 years, but throughout that time Cayman remained a refuge, a place of rest and rejuvenation as well as family and friends. Of course, it is only now that I have returned to the island full time to begin my professional career that I fully recognise how much Cayman has given and continues to provide to me. Opportunity, community and family come to mind. The opportunity to represent my country on the playing field and give just a little bit back to this unbelievably special place means a great deal.

Writing this piece has caused me to reflect on why it does feel so special to play for Cayman and represent this particular community. What immediately comes to mind is my teammates and the management team, giving time away from work and family. However, I also think back to Saturday mornings at the rugby club as a kid where I first learned to play and love the game of rugby – the parents volunteering their time to coach – as I believe they still do, if their arrival after our upsettingly early Saturday training sessions is anything to go by. It is very poignant to think back on the many moments that produced my love of rugby and its community and that the opportunity that I have now – to represent my country, to play in front that same community that has been so influential throughout my life – is built on the efforts of so many people over so many years.

After more than 20 years representing the Cayman Islands on the international stage, wearing the Cayman crest on my chest remains one of the greatest honours of my life. Every time I pull on that jersey, I am filled with pride — pride in my teammates, pride in our rugby community, and pride in representing our country.
Cayman Rugby continues to grow stronger each year, with a talented and committed group of players coming through the ranks. One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been playing alongside my brothers as well as seeing many of the young players I once coached now representing Cayman at the senior level. To have the opportunity to share the field with them is a true privilege and a reflection of the bright future of Cayman Rugby.

Following last year's historic doubleheader, we are proud to welcome the Barbados National Men’s XVs and the Jamaica Rugby Women’s 10s to Grand Cayman.

🇰🇾 Men’s International Test Match – Cayman Islands vs Barbados
Cayman and Barbados have faced each other twice in test match history.

· 2000 - Cayman won 17–7 in Barbados
· 2001 - Barbados won 17–14 in Cayman

Cayman aims to build on our momentum from Bermuda. Barbados looks to repeat their last win on our soil. Expect a battle. This is regional rugby at its most intense.
Women’s 10s – Cayman Rugby vs Jamaica Rugby
Our Women’s program continues to grow. After a strong showing against Bermuda last year, we now host Jamaica in an invitational 10s match. When we last met in Jamaica two years ago, Cayman earned a hard-fought victory.
