Sustainability Minister Katherine Ebanks-Wilks pledges to find comprehensive waste management solution as the Cayman Islands faces unprecedented environmental crisis. The George Town landfill received over 130,000 tons of waste in 2024—exceeding projections that anticipated this volume by 2030.

The territory generates approximately 11 pounds of waste daily per person, five times the global average, making it one of the highest waste producer per capita worldwide. The George Town landfill currently has 780,000 cubic yards of remaining capacity, with waste entering at 13,000 cubic yards monthly, providing an estimated 6-11 years before reaching full capacity.
