This week I have been playing with palette colors and mixing. I started with a primed canvas washed with Azo Gold and then using my Golden Open acrylics I mixed several combinations of colors and applied them to the canvas. Came back several days later and mixed some new colors with my oil paints and applied to same canvas. The oil paint mixtures did not really come out as planned so I spread the paint over the entire canvas. Then I noticed some of the underneath colors showed through when edge of palette knife scratched the surface so I just played with it. Turns out this is an actual process called "Sgraffito"!

"Sgraffito continues to be a popular technique among contemporary artists. Many painters use sgraffito to add expressive and dynamic elements to their abstract or figurative artworks. It allows them to create intricate details, fine lines, and captivating textures."

Moral of this story, allow yourself to play! I think I will be exploring this technique in more depth!

Camping and my sister sent me an idea photo by an artist using found objects to make prints so thought I would give it a try.
