Have and has are different forms of the verb to have. Even though they come from the same word, there are slight differences in the way they’re used.

To avoid run-on sentences, see if there is more than one idea communicated by two or more independent clauses. In this examples, there are two complete sentences:

Kate enjoyed the bouquet of tulips John gave her on prom night.
She prefers roses.

Both sentences are complete ideas by themselves; therefore, use a semicolon or a period to indicate that they are separate independent clauses.

Poor grammar amongst employees could prove costly to those businesses that don't bother about it. Well, maybe they should.

While the majority of learning and development departments (L&D) may view literacy as an occasional issue, recent research suggests the problem of substandard grammar is probably far more widespread than most organisations realise.

At Foolproof, we offer grammar training courses and workshops to explain the essential rules for English grammar workplaces writers must understand to communicate accurately.

The way to use this pair accurately is to focus on this essential difference: than is used when you're talking about comparisons; then is used when you're talking about something relating to time.
Than is the word to choose in phrases like smaller than, smoother than, and further than, it's the word that follows other, rather, trimmer, and more.
It's also in the phrases and then some, now and then, and even then.

Without conjunctions, you’d be forced to express every complex idea in a series of short, simplistic sentences. Conjunctions are words that link other words, phrases, or clauses together. 🤝

Types of common conjunctions:

Coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.
Correlative conjunctions: either, or neither, nor, both and, not only, but also, whether.
Subordinating conjunctions: after, although, as, because, before, how, if, once, since, than, that, though, till, until, when, where, whether, and while.
