GRATITUDE

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
2 CORINTHIANS 3:5 NIV

In times of trouble or weakness, when circumstances seem beyond our control, we pray. But when life is moving along smoothly and we have a handle on life, it is easy to forget who God is and who we are.

Scripture teaches us that everything comes from God, even our achievements. Have you ever thought of your résumé as being God’s work? When someone retires, do we thank God for their lifelong ability to work, to contribute, and to provide? Our good health, a stable home, deep and abiding friendships … who gets credit for these? Are you known for being prompt, polite, and professional? Who taught you those things? Who sent those teachers into your life? Spend some time looking at the ordinary, good things in your life today—the things you take for granted as being yours. Pause to thank God for giving them to you. Acknowledge the Giver behind every good thing you have received or accomplished.

Heavenly Father, I have been blind to the goodness that dwells in You. I have moved through my days all too quickly and claimed as my own doing the gifts You have bestowed. Thank You for all Your gifts to me. Amen.
