Represented by our team, last week on Thursday's Taqo Launch was a night of action. Our heartfelt admiration goes to Taqo Laqo founder Decimar Ogutu for turning her creative idea into this milestone. Many say, few do! And this came just when Africa needed more female innovators. Something more exciting about the brand, beyond jobs and income, 1% of revenue goes to support our creative industry.
We remain committed to promoting local innovations as a pathway to boosting our economy. From consumer to producer economy, how amazing!

Last week, we successfully concluded the co-creation process for the Scholars Council Leadership Development project- a journey that began with research and transitioned into virtual co-creation, culminating in an impactful in-person workshop. The two-day event, held in Kigali served as a dynamic platform for Mastercard Foundation Scholars to develop actionable solutions aimed at advancing transformative leadership within their Scholars Council. Using human-centered design and design thinking, Scholars moved through stages of empathizing, brainstorming, and solution design- all while drawing on insights from the research findings and virtual co-creation outputs.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the Scholars team who were represented by under the leadership of . They brought their A-game to every conversation, demonstrating unwavering passion for leadership and pouring their creativity into designing innovative solutions for what lies at the heart of their experience- the Scholars Council.
The co-creation workshop was expertly facilitated by the Design Thinking consultant, Esther Neema, with dedicated support from Wangalwa Musa and Dr Sarah Musau. Musa, Youth Leadership Development Curriculum development Consultant who was representing the curriculum development team (the end users of the co-creation outputs), ensured that the solutions were contextually relevant and ready for full adoption. Dr. Sarah, the Inclusion Consultant, delivered a stellar presentation on Inclusion in Action- ensuring every solution was designed with inclusivity at its core, especially concerning gender, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and refugee and displaced persons, factors that shape Scholars dynamics.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our implementing partner, , led by and led by . Josiah and his team worked tirelessly to ensure the meaningful involvement and active participation of Scholars at every stage, and to build inclusive Scholar teams. representing The Builder's Foundation, and also the projectβs IT Consultant provided unwavering operational support throughout- ensuring seamless processes, deploying instrumental digital safeguarding solutions for the co-creation phase, and offering operational oversight that prevented implementation pitfalls.
We remain fully committed to implementing the project with Scholars, not for them- by proactively ensuring their meaningful participation and engagement in shaping solutions at every phase of the project.
Happy World Creativity and Innovation Day!
At the heart of every great innovation lies a spark of creativity and thatβs why we remain deeply committed to placing creativity at the center of everything we build.
Today, we celebrate the remarkable creativity of Mastercard Foundation Scholars, brought to life during the Scholars Council Leadership Development Co-creation Workshop. There, Scholars didnβt just participate- they led the way in designing solutions for their own Scholars Council Leadership Program, turning bold ideas into meaningful action.
Hereβs to the thinkers, the makers, and the leaders reimagining whatβs possible. πβ¨
