π² A new mobility leader joins the journey to make Kenyan transport inclusive for everyone!
Flone Initiative officially signed an MOU with eBee.africa, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome them to the Empower Her Mobility project.
Represented by Managing Director Maarten Fonteijn, eBee is taking an important step toward advancing inclusive e-mobility solutions in Kenya. As a leader in electric bicycle innovation, their commitment demonstrates how sustainable transport and inclusion can work hand in hand to create mobility solutions that serve everyone.
By joining this journey, eBee is committing to:
β
Building mobility solutions that better serve women and persons with disabilities
β
Strengthening their capacity to integrate gender and disability inclusion into their products and services
β
Embedding inclusive practices into their operations and business growth strategy
This milestone is part of the broader Empower Her Mobility project, commissioned by the German Government and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fΓΌr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa (WE4D) programme.
Through this partnership, Flone Initiative will provide the technical support needed to help eBee translate this commitment into meaningful, measurable impact for communities across Kenya.
Together, we are accelerating a future where sustainable mobility is accessible, inclusive and empowering for all.

The 8th Women and Transport Africa Conference is coming: 2nd β 4th December 2026.
We are inviting governments, development partners, foundations, financial institutions, private sector actors, academia, mobility innovators and civil society organizations to express interest in partnering with Flone Initiative for the 8th Women and Transport Africa (WTA) Conference 2026.
The Women and Transport Africa (WTA) Conference has become a leading continental platform advancing gender-responsive, inclusive, and climate-resilient mobility systems. As we prepare for the 2026 edition, we are seeking strategic partners to co-create solutions, shape policy conversations, mobilize investments, support women-led mobility enterprises and accelerate Africaβs sustainable transport transition.
Building on seven successful editions, WTA 2026 will convene over 400 stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to drive action at the intersection of transport, gender equality, climate action, innovation and economic inclusion.
We are looking for partners willing to put their weight behind a continental platform that is transforming mobility systems and expanding opportunities for women and marginalized communities.

"Mention her name in the boardroom, Be her mentor."
That was just one of the moments that stopped the room at our Women in E-Mobility Networking Session, a side event of the E-Mobility Conference 2026, held on 4th June at Sarova Stanley, Nairobi.
For two hours, something rare happened. Women at different stages of the e-mobility journey: engineers, operators, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders, were in the same room, spoke honestly, listened deeply and left with more than business cards. They left with a renewed sense of what is possible when women in this industry choose to bring each other along.
Our speakers gave everything.
Edna Mercy, Director of Transport Futures, looked the room in the eye and said what many needed to hear, "silence the imposter syndrome, and do your thing. The industry needs exactly what you bring".
Faith Waraki, Global STEM Leader and Founder of the Green Women Accelerator, challenged every woman present to go broad and go deep, learn the batteries, the hardware, the software. Know the full ecosystem. And then: if you can carry another woman to the next level, do it. Open the door. Say her name in the boardroom. Be her mentor.
Judith Otieng, Head of Operations & Project Management at ARC Ride Kenya, brought it home with a practical and powerful charge: your ideas are ready. Now package them with intention, because the right investor is already looking for exactly what you are building.
This evening was made possible by partners who believe that inclusive mobility is not optional.
We are deeply grateful to UN Environment Programme, GIZ Kenya and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for their support and commitment to advancing women's participation in Kenya's e-mobility transition.
To every person who was in the room, Thank You for showing up and participating in growing our sector.
