Most e-commerce brands are currently fighting the wrong visibility war.
They're optimizing for rankings. AI systems have long since changed their approach.
Today, products are increasingly interpreted, compared, and recommended by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews before users even open a website.
And that's precisely where the problem begins. If a brand isn't mentioned in AI answers, it simply doesn't exist for that user at that moment.
This week, I saw a data point that brutally illustrates this shift:
Only 1% of users click on links within an AI Overview.
And yet, brands cited there receive 35% more organic clicks and 91% more paid clicks than competitors on the same page.
This isn't a contradiction.
AI systems are redistributing visibility.
No longer solely based on rankings.
But rather on trust, structure, and citability.
Most companies are still reacting with:
- more content.
- more SEO.
- more keywords.
But the real problem lies deeper:
Most product data was never built for machines.
It's not better text that matters. It's not more content that matters.
It's:
AI-readable product infrastructure.
Structure.
Schema.
Semantic clarity.
Retrievable product data.

Trotzdem sind die meisten E-Commerce-Shops fĂĽr genau diese Systeme derzeit unsichtbar.
Nicht weil ihre Produkte schlecht wären. Sondern weil ihre Produktdaten für Maschinen nicht professionell lesbar gemacht worden sind. KI-Agenten surfen nicht auf deiner Homepage.
Sie lesen nicht deinen Hero-Text.
Sie ziehen strukturierte Daten: Attribute, Schema, Feeds.
Fehlen diese Daten oder sind sie unvollständig bzw. falsch platziert, geht der KI-Roboter weiter. Direkt und automatisch zum Wettbewerber.
McKinsey schätzt, dass KI-Agenten bis 2030 ein Volumen von 3–5 Billionen Dollar im globalen Handel vermitteln werden. Die Händler, die diesen Umsatz schon jetzt abschöpfen, gewinnen nicht durch Branding oder Werbebudgets.
Sie gewinnen allein durch ihre Dateninfrastruktur.
Bei der Erstellung von ĂĽber 60.000 Produktbeschreibungen sahen wir immer dieselben LĂĽcken: Shops investieren in Sprache und ignorieren die Architektur dahinter.
Guter Text ersetzt keine maschinenlesbare Produktintelligenz.
Keyword-Optimierung ersetzt kein strukturiertes Schema.
