Tips for a smooth motor insurance experience:

1. Take cover with credible tier 1 insurers only.
2. Have a strong intermediary. If your intermediary has some leverage with the insurers, that will enhance your overall bargaining power in cases of disputed claims.
3. Do valuation early, preferably in the first week of taking cover with a new insurer. This will prevent anyone saying that a loss that occurs before valuation and after commencement of cover was there before taking cover
4. Finish paying your premiums as early as possible.
5. Always have a valid driving license. If you are not licensed, that's grounds for denial of a claim.
6. Ask for your policy document and read it. Familiarise yourself with all policy provisions and exemptions.
7. Always ensure that your motor cover has Excess Waiver and Political violence and terrorism protector extensions.
