🩸 MMUST Blood Donation Drive – A Success! 💪

The three-day blood donation drive at MMUST - Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Official) was successfully carried out, bringing together students, staff, and the surrounding community in support of saving lives and strengthening blood reserves.

With a committed team of 12 volunteers (9 males and 3 females), the exercise was well-coordinated through effective mobilization, registration, and on-site support.

📊 Progress Overview:

- Day 1: 21 pints
- Day 2: 22 pints
- Day 3: 29 pints
➡️ Total: 72 pints collected

The steady increase in participation reflects growing awareness and commitment to voluntary blood donation. Beyond the numbers, the drive played a vital role in promoting a culture of service and community responsibility.

Despite minor challenges such as low initial turnout and volunteer fatigue, the teamwork and dedication ensured overall success.

Today, the Kenya Red Cross MMUST - Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Official) Chapter successfully conducted a Basic First Aid Training at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), bringing together 36 participants from various faculties.

The training focused on equipping participants with essential life-saving skills, including CPR, bleeding control, fracture management, and emergency response. Through interactive and practical sessions, participants gained hands-on experience and confidence in handling real-life emergencies.

This initiative continues to strengthen community preparedness and promote a culture of safety within MMUST and beyond.

Today, the Kenya Red Cross MMUST Chapter held a refreshing Swimming Retreat at Penjoki Resort, themed “Swim for the Mind.” The event brought together 25 dedicated volunteers for an engaging and fun-filled experience promoting mental wellness through swimming.

In addition to the retreat, participants also received aqua rescue sensitisation training, led by the Kakamega Branch RCAT Leader, equipping them with essential lifesaving skills and enhancing their water safety knowledge.

The day was a perfect blend of relaxation, learning, and team spirit a true testament to the chapter’s commitment to mental health and capacity building.

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Kenya Red Cross Society - MMUST Chapter, in collaboration with SCORA and SCORP teams, visited the Transforming Nations Children's Home in Sichirai, Kakamega. The event, themed "Make a Child Smile," was a practical demonstration of the Red Cross's humanity principle. The volunteers spent the day engaging with the children on a variety of important topics, including reproductive health, future career aspirations, and how to manage stress.
Beyond the educational sessions, the team actively participated in improving the living conditions at the home. They conducted a thorough clean-up, washed the children's clothes, and played games with them to foster a sense of fun and companionship.
The event concluded with the team presenting donations of food and other essentials to the home, followed by a shared communal meal. The day was considered a great success, as the volunteers not only provided material support but also created a day of joy and connection, leaving a lasting, positive impact on the children.

This year’s competition was themed “First Aid and Climate Change”, highlighting the growing need for emergency preparedness in the face of climate-related disasters. Participants were tested on both theory and practical skills, simulating real-life emergency situations worsened by climate impacts.

Our team rose to the challenge, showcasing exceptional knowledge, swift response, and teamwork — a true embodiment of Red Cross values in action.
