in Kenya. In 2006, General Accident Insurance Company was acquired by the renowned I&M Bank Group in Kenya. The Bank has operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Mauritius. The group has other business interest like Coke Bottling, manufacturing industry and real estate. Following the takeover, the company has been restructured and has established professionally in the market. Carrying on GA’s legacy of stable and steady company, it has now evolved into a stronger, more responsive and progressive underwriters under the qualified, professional and experienced management. During the past few years the company has secured its place in the market with consistent profitable growth in business supported with excellent customer service. The complete transformation of the organisation led us to rebrand the company in September 2009 with new logo, new vibrant corporate colours and new short name ‘GA Insurance Limited’. Company derives its strength from strong financials, technical skills supported with the well designed Reinsurance programme, which is led by Africa Re and participated by Swiss Re, Kenya Re, PTA Re and EA Re. The re-insurance placements are advised and arranged by Wills Re and AON Benfield. All the re-insurers are highly rated by International Rating Agencies. The company’s premium income has grown manifolds to Kshs 3,815 Million (about USD 42M) in 2014 from Kshs 554 Million (USD 6.5M) in the year 2006. Total Assets have grown to Kshs 8.92 Billion (USD 63M) at the year ended 2014. The shareholders have injected additional capital so as to increase the Company’s paid up capital to Kshs 450 Million. The solvency margin remains many times above the statutory requirement. GA has a balanced business portfolio with high capacities to underwrite Property, Engineering, Marine, Liability and Aviation insurances. We also underwrite tailor made Medical Insurances. GA has prudently invested in the technology with latest software in general and medical insurances , which has further assisted the company in handling the volumes and get the better control on document deliveries, accounts and reports. We believe that our human resources are our best assets, for whom we provide the best work environment. Continuous training is the main focus in the development of manpower. We were adjudged second best General Insurer of the year 2012 by the imminent jury of the Think Business awards. This was a great honour and encouragement to us among 38 players in General Insurance industry in Kenya. We were also recognized as second runner up in 2011 for our commitment to CSR activities. GA remains sensitive to the society and has chosen Education, Water and Environment as focus area of our Corporate Social Responsibility. In June 2013, GA launched a new subsidiary company ‘GA Life Assurance Limited’, which is now fully operational for Life Insurance and Retirement Benefit solutions. GA started the regional expansion in 2014 with GA Insurance Tanzania, which is now fully operational.
