A Tribute to Our Chairman and Father, Mr. Kuria Muchiru

It began as a performance and ended as a homecoming.
We met Mr. Kuria Muchiru at his retirement party from PwC. We were the surprise act, a gift from his “tribe” to celebrate a career of excellence. At the time, we didn’t realize that their love for him would become our greatest blessing. That night, we sang and danced together, and amidst the celebration, we received an invitation that would change our lives: an invite to his home.

A few weeks later, we sat at his table. We met his family, his wife, Mrs. Kuria; his daughter, the art lover; and his son, the watch enthusiast. With his disarming wit and a scholar’s knowledge of music, culture, and art, he drew us out. He made us speak of our dreams, our vision, and the future of Sauti Sol, not just as a band, but as a brand and a business.
By the end of the night, we joked, “Now we can confidently say we have a friend who lives in Runda.”

He didn’t miss a beat. He looked at us and said, “No. Tell them you have a Dad who lives in Runda.”

What we thought was a dinner, he intended as a welcoming. What we thought was a meet-and-greet was an introduction to our new siblings. And those laughter-filled conversations? They were a deep dive. He saw our destiny before we could even articulate it. He just needed us to see it, believe it, and live it. He called it “Finding your flow.”

Mr. Kuria remained present, intently, consistently present. There were calls, texts, and invites to lunches and dinners. He hosted us, updated us on his children, and fostered a true family bond. But at every turn, he prodded. He checked our progress with a calm seriousness and a precision that made the most daunting problems feel manageable.

He was old school, a man of few words who made every single one count. When we succeeded, he offered a simple, rare, and hard-earned: “Well Done.” Coming from him, those two words meant everything.

SolFest, though founded by Sauti Sol, is a festival that truly embodies the spirit of Kenya. It was created by Kenyans, for Kenyans, with the aim of reaching a global audience. The festival’s mission is to highlight Kenyan music, culture, and creativity on a platform that showcases our best to both local and international audiences.

Since the festival’s inception, has been the headlining act. However, the time has come for other talented Kenyan musicians to take the stage. These artists have worked incredibly hard to achieve greatness, and now it is their turn to elevate SolFest to new heights.

These musicians deserve this opportunity. Their dedication and talent have earned them the chance to shine on the SolFest stage, and they are ready to make their mark on the festival.

Kenyans have so passionately supported and invested in Solfest. The festival must continue, as it belongs to Kenya and represents the heartbeat of our creative industry.

SolFest is a vital platform for our artists. It belongs to them, and it is their stage to express their art and culture. The festival is not just an event; it is a celebration of Kenyan talent.

This is why SolFest will continue to thrive and grow, year after year. The journey of SolFest is far from over—in fact, it is just beginning.
