We’re in the final week of design for the new Remembering Giraffes book and I was reminded in one of the essays how often giraffes spot danger before anyone else.
Here (in a photo I took in the Mara) they demonstrate that fixed stare that won’t let that danger out of their sight (in this case lions) that safari guides often use a clue to find predators.
I must say this book is turning into a real love story on giraffes, so misunderstood and unfairly overlooked. It also, it turns out, will be the first even “grown up” beautiful photography book purely on giraffes (well at least that I can find). I can’t wait for it to be ready!
Even though the Kickstarter campaign is over you can still pre-order via the link on our website (link in bio). Printing begins in just over a month! 🙏🏻

Where’s the best place to see loggerhead turtles in Europe? Kefalonia, Greece!
If you want to know the best way to see them on the island, I share my insider knowledge over at https://koriannahouse.com/loggerhead-turtles-kefalonia (link to website in bio)

When you think about the legacy of a life, it’s easy to focus only on the direct achievements. And in the case of Sir David Attenborough, that list alone is extraordinary. But perhaps just as important are the ripples his work has created — including, in our case, the inspiration behind Remembering Wildlife.
Back in 2015, when Remembering Elephants was just an idea, we came across this quote from him:
“The question is, are we happy to suppose that our grandchildren may never be able to see an elephant, except in a picture book?”
It stopped me in my tracks. What if that really happened? What picture books would future generations look at in wonder? That thought led directly to the concept and title Remembering Elephants — creating the most beautiful book possible to celebrate elephants in the wild, while raising awareness and funds to help protect them.
I wrote to Sir David asking permission to use the quote in the book and, true to form, received a handwritten letter the very next day saying yes and wishing us luck. A year later, I quietly left a copy of the finished book on his doorstep, far too in awe to knock. The next day, another handwritten thank you note arrived. Utter class.
Since then, Remembering Wildlife has sold more than 65,000 books globally and distributed £1.26m GBP to conservation projects. We are just one small ripple from the influence of an extraordinary man.
Happy 100th Birthday Sir David — and thank you. Your life’s work, more than any other, has inspired generations to care more deeply about the natural world, and your legacy will live on for many
more to come 🙏🏻🎉

For International Leopard Day just a few of the leopards I’ve had the privilege of getting to see and photograph over the years. As we explained in Remembering Leopards, their continued presence should never be taken for granted in the face of habitat loss, conflict with humans, the illegal trade and countless other threats facing them. In spite of it all however, they currently persist and for that we can all be deeply grateful.
Today, let’s celebrate their astounding beauty which I never will stop yearning to see!

Watch out! Pangolins, elephants and leopards spotted recently at Jo’burg airport and in camp in the Maasai Mara 😍
We love seeing Remembering Wildlife books out in the wild! 😅 Do share any such sightings with us and thank you for the support 🙏🏻

Just five hours left now on this year’s Kickstarter and we just overtook the totals for African Wild Dogs and Bears 😅 Time to place bets on where we might finish, I’m still hoping it is close enough to £160k to allow us to also reprint Remembering Elephants, which is just about to go out of print. Fingers crossed and to all who have supported so far, THANK YOU 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🦒

I just did some research on the retailer named after a river and was really shocked to realise there simply isn’t a coffee table book out there dedicated to giraffes so far. Given how many people seem to love them, I think this is a shocking omission and reflects I think the complacency with which they are viewed. We take for granted they will always be there while chasing cats and other “rarer” species on our safaris.
I’m therefore so proud that my team and I are shining a much-needed spotlight on them this year and having just gone through the latest design proofs, I can hand on heart say this book is going to be a stunning tribute.
This year’s Kickstarter has been a rollercoaster reminiscent to me of launching with trepidation the campaign for Remembering Cheetahs just as the pandemic was starting to impact us all. This time, it has been a war in the Middle East, surging oil prices and again, an end game which none of us can guess at. Yet once again, to my immense relief and gratitude, supporters in their hundreds have stepped up again to show their support.
With 28 hours to go now, we might not be in the top quartile of our performances over the years but we’re in a great place and I’m still hoping to raise enough to reprint Remembering Elephants too.
If you’ve not looked at the Kickstarter campaign - or even if you have, but not for a while - please indulge me by following the link in bio (or doing a quick search for Remembering Giraffes Kickstarter).
There are still a few safaris up for grabs which are now even more of a bargain than they were before (hint, hint) plus a great variety of other rewards as well as of course the new book. Let’s not be the generation that let giraffes ‘journey’ into extinction, just because there was always another animal we were more interested in - they truly deserve better 🙏🏻🦒

Only around three and a half days left now (we close 8pm UK Sunday) on the Remembering Giraffes Kickstarter! You’d think after 11 years they’d get less nerve-racking, but you’d be wrong 🤯
Still some fantastic rewards up for grabs as well as the books (including remarkably, some safari stays at a 30% bargain discount), all on offer to help us fund not only this book but hopefully also a reprint of Remembering Elephants too. Please do reshare this post and spread the word! And link is in bio if you’ve not yet had a look. Go on, you know you want to! 🙏🏻🦒🦒🦒🦒🦒

Head in the computer but mind on a leopard from long ago. This is Shujaa from 2014, when he was young and gorgeous. Close to pumphouse in the Mara 🙏🏻
