The Community Roads Empowerment (CORE) Program, implemented under the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF), today held an Implementation Support Mission (ISM) meeting that included site visits to several roads upgraded during the three-year project aimed at improving accessibility in underserved communities within Meru Town.

Following the site visits, a workshop was convened focusing on project sustainability and the exit strategy, during which various key issues were deliberated. The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Transport, the Project Management Office (PMO), the World Bank, the Kenya Roads Board (KRB), the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and the County Government of Meru.

Under the JSDF project, The Red Turnip Construction Co. Ltd was able to successfully propose to be granted 500ltrs concrete mixer, concrete vi****or and maintenance tools by CORE.
The good news is they're are now hiring out their machine at good rates per day, and additionally, the group members are working on a construction site as technicians and labourers.
Therefore, their livelihoods improved, and they are planning to save some money in a SACCO so as they get credit to purchase Hoist Crane to boost their income in the construction industry.

Rehabilitation of road number 1 and 4 in Majengo kicks off today in earnest involving two groups of beneficiaries each comprising 25 people.

‎Today, Community Roads Empowerment CORE under the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) held a meeting with the Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) with the agenda being the Project update , Community grant implementation as well as Rehabilitation of Road no.1 & 4 in Majengo area.

CORE held the 5th Community Grant Steering Committee meeting today and finally reviewed 13 proposals ahead of grant disbursement by the month of October 2025.

CORE-JSDF PROJECT UPDATE
Today, Community Roads Empowerment CORE under the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) held a business refresher training for SMEs directors for the three years it has been operating in the three underserved settlements of Gitimbine, Mjini and Majengo. Among other issues, the directors were trained on financial management skills, working capital, cost of running a business, management of incomes among others. This is a way of retooling the directors before disbursement of grants for the beneficiaries' groups meant to be done before the end of September.
