I've been building this website for a couple of months now, and I've discovered that consistency and discipline are key to achieving anything.

What did I learn?
1. Initially, I relied entirely on AI for everything. However, I found that after completing a certain component of the website, that part would either crash or not work as expected.
2. I realized I needed to find another approach. What did I choose? I decided to write some of the code myself, of course, with the help of documentation, Stack Overflow, and other resources.
3. I concluded that AI cannot always provide perfect code. Even if it looks good, it may not function as well as you might think.

The NOW approach:
- I struggle a bit with searching for and writing code on my own. This means I often turn to Google, Stack Overflow, and documentation for help.
- Once I've attempted to troubleshoot on my own, I then ask AI for assistance.

What have I discovered?
Learning is an essential skill, and I have become more knowledgeable in web development without losing my skills.

This is a valuable lesson for everyone. We must be cautious about becoming overly reliant on AI tools.

Dependence on these tools can lead to a decline in critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

It's important to struggle first and then let AI come to the rescue.

What is your approach? Comment below.

What and how should you learn as a web developer in 2026?

AI is everywhere. It writes code. It debugs. It explains concepts faster than any tutorial.

But here's the truth nobody wants to hear.

AI won't make you a great developer. How you use it will.

Maximilian recently proposed a guideline that really resonated with me. A framework for becoming a better web developer in the age of AI.

1. Work WITH AI, not FOR AI
Use AI for code reviews. Let it spot what you missed. Let it challenge your logic. But don't let it do the thinking for you. The moment you copy-paste without understanding, you stop growing.

2. Become an expert generalist
Pick a programming language. Master it deeply. Understand the fundamentals. The syntax. The patterns. The quirks. Yes, learn with AI. But don't become dependent on AI for everything. There's a difference between using a tool and being controlled by it.

3. Traditional learning still matters

Courses. Documentation. Articles. Books. These aren't outdated. They're foundational. AI should be your assistant, not your teacher. The best developers I know still read docs. Still take courses. Still dig into articles. They just move faster because AI helps them fill gaps.

The developers who will thrive in 2026 and beyond aren't the ones who let AI do all the work.

They're the ones who struggle first. Learn first. Build understanding first.

Then use AI to accelerate what they already know.

That's the real skill.

How are you balancing AI with traditional learning?
