Ugghhh maths they say! “I hate maths”. Well change it around folks and show your kids how much maths we use on a daily basis! Model how you use it, regardless of how s**t your own maths skills are! Ask me for more tips on how to make maths more accessible for those who find it inaccessible!

We are almost at the end of exam season! Phew! It is things like this that make me feel immense joy and pride. When I first started working with this incredible young man many years back, he didn’t have the skills and confidence to write. The paradox of dyslexia is that you have immense creativity and the ability to think outside the box, but the recall and memory for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax is all jumbled. This means it is so hard to get your ideas onto paper. Hence why I believe that exam access accommodations are so important to build the bridge and develop confidence. So, IMAGINE this, he wrote all his own Common Entrance papers, he had the skills to process ideas and thoughts, to recall knowledge and to do his very best. This is what being a dyslexia therapist is all about. I couldn’t be more happy!

Exciting news!

I’m delighted to announce that I now offer assessment using the IDS-2 (Intelligence and Development Scales – Second Edition) as part of my assessment toolkit.

The IDS-2 is a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment designed to provide a detailed understanding of a child or young person’s strengths and areas for support across multiple areas of development.

The IDS-2 can assess:
🧠 Intelligence & cognitive abilities – including reasoning, processing, memory and problem-solving
📚 Executive functions – skills involved in planning, attention and self-regulation
🗣️ Language skills
📖 Academic skills – including aspects of literacy and numeracy
🤝 Social-emotional competencies
🎯 Motivation and participation
🧩 Developmental functioning across a broad profile of strengths and needs

This assessment allows for a rich, holistic understanding of how a child learns and develops, helping to inform recommendations, educational planning and support. This test is for the age range of 5-20 years old.
