As we step into into the new year, weβd like to start by sharing an uplifting story from Vijiweni Primary School in Mombasa, hashtag , where students are turning their schools into hubs of environmental action and climate resilience.
With support from the youth organisation Likoni Community Development Program (LICODEP) LIKONI, schools participating in Schools2030 are reactivating environmental clubs where students are learning how to grow food, care for plants, and respond to the effects of climate change.
From planting trees and vegetables, to protecting crops without pesticides, these young eco-warriors are building practical skills in sustainable agriculture, including both traditional and container farming.
Students are also taking this knowledge home and sharing it with their families and communities: a powerful example of how youth leadership can be harnessed to drive climate resilience on a broader scale. These school gardens are not only a source of learning but also of food, income, and self-reliance.

This week Licodep was represented in the annual show case on Human centred innovations under the School2030 program hosted by our able partner Aga Khan Foundation. Delegation from Licodep led by Mohamed Sudi showcased our idea to various partners on climate change mitigation through strengthening of school clubs as well introduction of kitchen gardening. It was more than a showcase since a learning platform was provided and we sincerely thank our partner Aga Khan Foundation for the overwhelming support which has enabled us to contribute to climate change mitigation together with other partners globally.

Today through the 'Youth Voices for Change' project supported by Swahilipot Hub, we conducted a youth civic forum at our resource centre involving youths from all the 5 ward's within Likoni sub-county. The forum focused on 4 major sectors I.e. Devolution, Budgeting, public participation and policy review and all these aimed at creating awareness on civic engagement especially in governance issues.
We thank you our partner Hub for this support towards implementing this project and also focusing making impact to the community through civic engagement.

Yesterday together with climate change team we paid a courtesy visit to one of youth groups whom we have mentored through climate change resilience project supported by Aga Khan Foundation through the Human Centered approach. We successfully conducted site visit to their farms and supported them with equipments which would support their initiatives. The group through our mentorship has been able to grow tomatoes, Mchicha, sukuma wiki, carrots and okras which they sell to the locals to fund their daily needs. We are happy for them and promised to offer more support and also thank Aga Khan Foundation-coastal region for their overwhelming support.
