🔧 How to reset the engine light: 4 simple methods!

Check Engine Light turns on when your vehicle's on-board computer detects a malfunction in the powertrain. This may indicate a minor or major problem. If the problem has been fixed but the flashlight is still on, here are four ways to reset it:

1. Using a diagnostic tool (OBD-II)
The most reliable method is to use an OBD-II diagnostic tool.

Plug tool into OBD-II port located under dashboard.
Plug in without starting the engine
Follow the tool instructions to read and clear error codes.

2. Unplug the battery
This method can reset the desktop computer:

Cut the switch and unplug the battery wires (start with negative).
Press the brake pedal for about 30 seconds to diacharge the residual electricity.
Wait about 15 minutes then plug the cables back on.
Restart the vehicle.

Note: This method may not work on all vehicle's.

3. Switch on and off switch
A simple method without tools:

Insert the key and set the contact without starting.
Turn off the contact.
Repeat this operation three times in row with one second interval.
Start engine to check if the light is out

4. Letting the light out naturally
Sometimes the system automatically reset the visor after several driving cycles if the problem is fixed.

What if the seer comes back?
If the engine light comes back on after resetting:

Use an OBD-II tool to read the new error codes.
Look up the meaning of the codes to identify the problem.
