Today we had a successful community sensitization on alcohol and substance use as part of Mental Health Awareness Month this May. The session brought together women, men, and youths from the community to learn, share, and encourage one another on the importance of mental wellness and living free from substance abuse.
A special appreciation to Hillary Mainga for taking the time to support this meaningful activity. Your presence through Sharon and encouragement made a great impact.
Together, we continue creating awareness, breaking stigma, and building a healthier community. 🧠💚

At the launch of the Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) in Busia county,FIDS was privileged to join other stakeholders in this groundbreaking ceremony that seeks to make justice accessible upto the grassroot level.
The registries have been established at the law courts in Busia , Port Victoria, Malaba and Butula.
The event presided over by Hon Justice Prof Joel Ngugi, judge of the Kenya Court of Appeal and Chair,National Steering Committee on Implementation of AJS,in partnership with the county government committed to developing a County Action Plan on the implementation of AJS that will see the already existing traditional community based dispute resolution mechanisms being anchored in the constitution.
Of emphasis was that sexual offences cases don't fall under AJS mandate and that the established formal courts continue to handle such cases to ensure that survivors get to have justice.
FIDS is committed to partnering with like-minded stakeholders to promote community centred initiatives that make justice accessible to all and ensure the well-being of all members.

Today, 25th April 2025, we successfully held our Back-to-School activity.
It was a meaningful moment as we reminded ourselves of the importance of education, engaged in group counselling sessions, and offered individual support to those who needed it most.
As schools reopen, we are proud that the learners are heading back refreshed, encouraged, and ready to focus on their studies.
Education is the key, and together we continue to build brighter futures.

It was encouraging to see residents of Teso South Sub-County actively engage in discussions and contribute ideas toward shaping policies that directly impact their lives.

Today (21/04/2026), we held a successful community forum at New Springs Life Church, Amerikwai B, engaging over 50 young people on the Draft Budget Estimates for FY 2026/2027. Supported by Siasa Place
The discussion empowered youth to understand and actively participate in shaping our community’s priorities.
As we head to the public participation forum tomorrow at Otimong PAG, Chakol South Ward, we are ready to raise key issues and advocate strongly especially on mental health.
