Day 3 of ASMUN'18 28/02/2018
25/02/2018

Our journalist Jana Haddad from 6th grade wrote an article regarding ASMUN. Way to go Jana !

"Asamiah International School was truly inspired by Jordan Model United Nations to launch its own MUN conference under the title ASMUN. To make it easier for the delegates, ASMUN took place on February 22-24th. The first day revolves around lobbying and merging, and it is where all allies consolidate together and merge their resolutions about two main subjects: The Status Quo of Jerusalem and the Nuclear Missiles of North Korea. Each group of allies chooses a main submitter and co- submitters; the main submitter is the delegate who reads the unified resolution, while the co- submitter is the delegate who answers supports and backs up the main submitter in answering questions about the resolution. On the second day, the delegates discuss their first topic, which is whether Jerusalem should be assigned the capital of Israel, and on the last and third day, the delegates discuss North Korea’s nuclear missiles.
The second day begins with delegates’ opening speeches, stating briefly their stances to the topics discussed. Next, the delegates present their merged and final resolutions about the first topic with a main and co- submitter. The main submitter can be asked questions, (if the speaker wishes to be asked) and if the main submitter could not answer the question, the delegate can pass the question to the co-submitter. Next, the delegates vote for the resolution that convinces them the most. If neutral, the delegate does not vote. To continue, the delegates present their resolutions, and if another delegate is convinced, that delegate votes for the resolution, if votes are 19 or up, the resolution passes, if the score is under the required number of votes, the resolution fails. For the first topic, delegates try to convince everyone to vote for them, so they can be able to find a solution for the current problem(s).
The third and final day’s topic is about the nuclear bombs launched from North Korea to United states of America. This subject is crucial because if solutions are not found, war will be held between the United States of America and North Korea along with the allies being involved, too.
The last day ends with a closing ceremony where the school principal thanks JoMUN for inspiring AIS to create ASMUN and directors deliver their speech. Certificates are handed in to each participant.
ASMUN has been a great success! Students have gained more confidence and have learnt valuable information.
Definitely our AIS young delegates have successfully proven to be our future ambassadors and leaders."
