You will begin the adventure by meeting with your friendly excursion guide just next to the Ocho Rios cruise ship pier. Then you'll be shown to comfortable transportation for the scenic ride to the river and waterfall system known as the Blue Hole. This great spot has many other names such as "secret waters" and "island gully." But, whatever it's called, it is simply spectacular. Relax in the collection pool as you listen to the sounds of cascading waters. You will have approximately 1 hour at the Blue Hole. Then it is time to head out for your river adventure. When you arrive, there are 4 options to choose from: river kayaking, river tubing, river rafting, or river boarding. At the river your experienced guide will go over the safety measures you'll need to know. You'll also be handed safety gear that is mandatory. Then, whichever water transportation was selected, you'll meet the Rio Bueno river. There are class 1 and class 2 rapids always followed by quiet, tranquil waters. Along the way you'll be surrounded by the tropics so keep an eye out for colorful birds and native wildlife. Rafting
Your group will receive the basics on paddling as a team before you get in your raft and start the thrilling ride downstream. The number of guests per raft will vary according to weight. The river rafting shore excursion staff captain will be steering the raft as you and your boat mates use teamwork to navigate down the Rio Bueno River. Laughter and excitement will pick up as the raft goes through various sections of class 1 and 2 whitewater rapids. Kayaking
Your friendly Ocho Rios kayak shore excursion guide will then go over all the easy basics for paddling your personal kayak and explain the safety information. They will then lead you down a short trail through the rainforest leading to the river where your kayaks are set-up. After any last questions, the group will get in their kayaks and follow the guide downstream. Your guides will paddle at the front of the group as the currents take the kayaks down the river. There will be exciting class 1 and 2 white water rapids followed by calm pools along the way. This is definitely suitable for beginners and families too. No kayaking or white water experience is needed. The guides will assist you the entire time. Boarding
Your Ocho Rios shore excursion guide will go over the instructions and safety information before you gather up your gear, river board and follow the group down to the river's edge. The water is cool and inviting as you jump in and begin this exciting new water sport. Your guide will lead the way downstream as you navigate using your board, hands and legs to steer. You will pass through calm areas followed by class 1 and 2 white water rapids for a 3 mile thrilling journey! There will be a calm part of the river where you will take a breather, relax and maybe try your rope swing skills Tarzan style. Tubing
The river tubing shore excursion guide will pass out your safety gear and take the group over the Irie Bridge and down a jungle trail to where you will launch the tubes. After a final check, you'll all jump in and the excitement starts. The river currents will take you through the rain forest as you enjoy the view during the lazy sections of the river. With each lazy section comes a thrilling class 2 rapid where the pace of the water picks up and your tube floats through the splashing white water. Coming to a bend in a lazy part of the river, you can try your Tarzan skills on the rope swing - fun to do and funnier to watch! Then you will start down the river over a few more rapids until the river calms. Other members of your group may choose another activity while you do a different one. The river route is the same. Whichever water activity you choose to do, you will have approximately 1-1.5 hours on the river. Regardless of the river option you purchase, once you come to the ending point on the river it will be time for you to go to the private beach for a great lunch. Powdery sand and swaying palms await you as you enjoy jerk chicken with rice and vegetable, or a pasta salad with a non-alcoholic drink. Additional food, snacks, and drinks can be purchased at the beach if customers want more than the lunch provided. Kick back and relax and enjoy the scenery with a full stomach.
