🌎 Traveling as a family can be tricky.

Going on an international adventure as a multigenerational crew with mobility issues and medical complications is a challenge all its own.

That’s why we decided not to over-plan our visit to Ireland. ✈️

We went with a home base in Limerick, a rental car reservation, a short list of landmarks we hoped to see, and one main goal: attending my brother’s wedding. 💒

We boarded the plane ready to be flexible—with plenty of leeway for jet lag 😴, unexpected incidents 🚗, necessary breaks ♿, and spontaneous discoveries 🍀.

Was it the most efficient use of time? Probably not.

But it was a memorable, bucket-list trip that allowed our entire family to experience Ireland together. 💚

Our family recently visited Gillette Castle State Park and quickly realized this wasn’t your typical castle tour. 👀

Built in 1914 by William Gillette, the estate is packed with fascinating details:

🏰 Medieval-inspired architecture

The castle itself includes quite a few stairs, so accessibility inside can be challenging. However, all-terrain wheelchairs are available to help visitors enjoy the beautiful grounds. 💚

And trust me—the terrace overlooking the Connecticut River is worth the trip all by itself. 🌊✨
