TIP 9 : Always explain rules and decisions at each stage of your child's development.
Make sure your child knows and understands the rules. Check your child’s understanding by having them repeat the rule in their own words. Even if the child is older, some things will still need to be explained to them and not assume that they understand.

TIP 8: While it would be nice for your children to follow your rules simply because you have created them, it is unrealistic to expect them to do so. In part, children test your rules because they need to test the limits.
Parents should never hit a child, under any circumstances. Have a plan in place in case the rules are broken.
