LOOKING FOR A HOME

Four year old Max is looking for fun and adventures. If you haven’t read his back story he came to us as an emergency and had surgery to remove part of a toy that he’d ingested. He is now in fine fettle and ready for a new home.

He is used to family life, he can live with children who are confident around dogs and understand he can’t have soft toys and shouldn’t leave them laying around. He could live with a female dog or as an only dog. He really loves time with his people so would like someone who is around for much of the day. He can be left for 2-3 hours, he is house trained. He enjoys time in the garden, so will need a secure outside space.

His downfall - he loves soft toys a bit too much and will eat them if unsupervised. He is busy, he likes to be involved in all you do and does enjoy his trips out. He charmed everyone at the vets and does the best grin showing his teefs.

He’s not suited to living with caged feathered or furry pets where they are in his reach.

What does the HSBA Garden Railway and a spotty dog have in common?!

Literally a life saved with funds raised by the fabulous Curtis, who hosted another successful Open Day to assist with the bill for a new arrival.

Max the dalmation came into our care as an emergency with urgent investigations needed when he continued to be very unwell with weight loss, diarrhoea and vomiting.

An X-ray revealed something odd looking and surgery followed. Vets were shocked at the size of what they discovered stuck in Max’s duodenum - see photo in comments.

Blood work showed his potassium levels were in his boots. It was a worrying time and the first 24-48 were critical. Max was admitted daily for potassium infusions and his levels crept up.

This all happened 5 weeks ago and we’re delighted to report that Max has made a full recovery and is now signed off from the vets and has been allowed his first off lead run after what was life saving surgery. Thank you to all in involved in Max’s care.🙏

It is now time to find this boy a 5* home. A separate 🏡 post will follow.

Keeping Your Dog Safe in the Summer Heat 🐶

As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that dogs can quickly overheat, even on days that don’t feel particularly hot to us.

Help them stay cool with paddling pools, frozen treats, or damp towels.

Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, confusion, or collapse. Heatstroke is a medical emergency and requires immediate veterinary attention.

Some dogs are particularly vulnerable, including puppies, senior dogs, flat-faced breeds, overweight dogs, and those with underlying health conditions.

Always provide fresh, cool water and ensure your dog has access to shade throughout the day.

Pavements can become dangerously hot. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet.

Never leave a dog in a parked car, even with windows open. Temperatures can rise rapidly and become life-threatening within minutes.

LOOKING FOR A HOME

Little Miss Trixie is looking for a home who can offer her lots of love and care. We homed this cutie a few years but back sadly she’s now lost her dad and mum.

Her tail is always wagging when her humans are near and she is the sweetest dog around. A few of the team at JRD have fallen for her for sure!

She loves to walk - happily doing a good hour and then equally loves to be home, chilling out on the sofa next to you.

She travels well in the car and can be left home alone for a couple of hours.

She sleeps through the night in her own bed in the bedroom and is clean in the house with regular access to outside.

She is good with other dogs and could be homed with others (equal size or larger are best as smaller are tempting to grump at if they have something she wants!) or live alone. We don’t think she can live with cats. She could live with children in the right set up and experience.

At 12 years old, her health has started to decline - not that you would know it when you are late for her dinner! Trixie has a collapsing trachea - this is level 1 which is the least bad but being naked is important to avoid stress on her throat and having a home who could get her quickly to the vets if needed is key. She also has some other bits going on - such as an enlarged liver (the belly isn’t all a love of food!) and low heart murmur (no meds needed). We have her on steroids at present to help her trachea - this is every other day but every day when it flares up. She also has a few warts and some funny angled teefs.

This girl would love to find her forever humans after her sad losses - please help us find it for her.

LOOKING FOR A HOME

Coco and Pepe would love to stay together and find their forever sofa. They only take up the space of one!

They would suit so many homes - great natured and good with other dogs. Can be left happily for 3-4 hours and love walks, both on and off lead.

MEDICAL SUITS NEEDED

Do you have a medical suit you no longer need?

We currently need some more for our foster dogs - particularly some to fit a 26kg dog presently.

If you have one, we would love it please.

To get it to us, please drop it to our shop or to one of our drop locations across the island (send a pm with your parish and we can let you know closest one). We can also collect if required.

Coco and Pepe are on a lookout for their forever home.

They are the best of both in and out doors - loving cuddles on the sofa and walks in equal measures.

They are clean in the house and can be left for 3-4 hours. They can be walked on or off lead.

They could live with other dogs and children are a possibility in the right set up - they have lived with a baby and toddlers previously. No cats unfortunately.
