Make a Splash Safely: Essential Tips for Drowning Prevention Week!

As Drowning Prevention Week gets underway, our dedicated Les Quennevais Sports Centre Wet Side team is here to share their water safety tips for a fun and safe time at the Coronation Park Splashpad.

Aly, our amazing Aquatics Program Co-Ordinator, emphasises these key points for Splashpad safety:

๐Ÿ‘€Constant Supervision is Key: "Please keep a close eye on your children at all times. Drowning can happen quickly and silently, even in shallow water."

๐ŸŸUse Floatation Devices (When Appropriate): "Don't forget armbands or other approved floatation devices for younger or less confident swimmers. These are an extra layer of safety, but remember they are not a substitute for active supervision."

๐Ÿ’งShallow Water Can Be Dangerous: "It's crucial to remember that it is possible to drown in very shallow water. Even a few inches can be a risk, especially for young children."

โ˜€๏ธSun Safety Matters Too! "While focusing on water safety, let's not forget sun protection! Wear something cool and comfortable, and donโ€™t forget sunscreen and a hat to protect against harmful UV rays."

๐ŸŒŠ Splashpad Reminder โ€“ Letโ€™s Keep It Safe & Enjoyable for Everyone ๐Ÿ’™

Weโ€™re so glad to see so many families enjoying the Splashpadโ€”especially in the warmer weather! Weโ€™d like to share a gentle reminder to help keep the area safe and fun for all children, especially our youngest visitors:

๐Ÿ’™ Please take all rubbish home with you or use the bins provided
๐Ÿ’™ Avoid bringing water balloons / water bombs into the Splashpad
๐Ÿ’™ Please make sure your child is wearing a swim nappy
๐Ÿ’™ Help us keep the water area clear of debris
๐Ÿ’™ Please donโ€™t bring dogs into the Splashpad

Recently, there have been a number of used water balloons left in the splash area. These can pose a choking risk for young children. We know this isnโ€™t intentional, and we really appreciate your support in helping reduce this risk.

A reminder:
๐Ÿ’™ The splashpad is open daily 10amโ€“6pm (1 Mayโ€“30 Sept)
๐Ÿ’™ No lifeguard on duty โ€“ children must be supervised at all times
๐Ÿ’™ Toilets and baby changing facilities are available nearby
๐Ÿ’™ Report any issues to 01534 449888

Thank you for helping us keep the Splashpad a safe, clean and happy place for everyone!
