A huge weekend supporting the Melbourne Freedivers pool competition as the event medical officer.

Really cool to watch athletes push themselves in a controlled environment built on trust, safety, discipline and calm under pressure. From first-time competitors to experienced divers, there was a strong sense of community around the whole event.

Freediving competitions are unique. On the surface it can look quiet and relaxed, but underneath there’s a massive amount of preparation, focus, safety planning and teamwork happening between organisers, judges, safety divers and medical staff.

Big respect to everyone who stepped up, competed, supported others and helped make the weekend run smoothly. Especially the safety team!!!

Choona hunts with

Found a chilled school sitting about 10m deep, very curious fish that came within a few metres.

Plenty around at the moment if you know how to look for them.

Will be getting in some tuna set ups soon, dialed in for the local fish. Stay tuned!!

Picked up on the way past the bluff yesterday to pick up some fresh sashimi.

We didn't take long to find them in fairly choppy conditions. Plenty about and they were placid on the surface, only having to dive about 5m to engage them.

Thanks for picking up (sorry watters, owe you one).

Beneath the surface, the wild moves without hurry.
No performance. No noise. Just life, immense and unbothered.

It's the quiet times, when you're able to just sit in the silence and appreciate everyday beauty. Take the time to quiet the mind and focus on the present and you will see differently.
