What do tour guides do in the low season? Well... we study new itineraries, take specific courses, do sites inspections, network with agencies and travel of course! Yesterday I explored the Baths of Caracalla in depth and was amazed by an area opened to the public just a couple of years ago, a Roman house - named Vigna Guidi - built in the area in the early second century A.D., so around one hundred years before the costruction of the massive Baths! When you come back to Rome, mark it as one of your must-see tours :)

And so Epiphany takes all the festivities away and the Holy Year of Hope officially closed with the presence of around 33 million faithful here in Rome throughout the year. And I can assure you that if I haven't seen them all... almost.
It has been a very intense year for everyone working in the tourism field, also due to the death of a pope, the Conclave, and the election of a new pontiff. I worked with both individual travelers and groups of non-believers, as well as with pilgrims arriving from all over the world. I will also be there for the next extraordinary one, in 2033, the year in which our calendar marks the 2000th anniversary of the passing and resurrection of Christ 🙏

The route partly retraces, after centuries, the via Papalis or the itinerary that the popes took from St Peter's to St John Lateran, seat of the bishop of Rome, to take possession of the episcopal chair.

Il tragitto ricalca in parte, dopo secoli, la via Papalis ovvero l'itinerario che i pontefici percorrevano da San Pietro a San Giovanni in Laterano, sede del vescovo di Roma, per prendere possesso della cattedra episcopale. La via Papalis prevedeva l’uscita dal Vaticano di un lungo corteo composto da ecclesiastici e da tutti i componenti della corte e, a seguire, una simbolica ascensione al Campidoglio, la discesa verso il Foro Romano lungo la Via Sacra e la risalita nella valle del Colosseo costeggiando l'Anfiteatro.
