2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. The World Food Programme was created in 1961, as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system.

The UN World Food Programme delivers food and lifesaving support in crises and helps communities scale up solutions to hunger and malnutrition. In 1965, WFP became a fully-fledged UN programme, to last for “as long as multilateral food aid is found feasible and desirable”. In a world of plenty, where enough food is produced to feed everyone on the planet, hunger should be a thing of the past. Howe

🚚 This is WFP’s supply chain in Haiti and it’s a backbone for the entire humanitarian response.

Across four warehouses nationwide, WFP’s supply chain supports not only WFP operations, but humanitarian partners working across the country.

In 2025, WFP delivered more than 17,000 metric tons of food to local partners reaching communities in need. Through 66 maritime voyages between Haitian ports, nearly 4,000 metric tons of supplies were moved for 32 humanitarian organisations.

✈️ In some of the world’s most inaccessible, conflict‑affected places, air drops are often the only way to reach people on the front lines of hunger.

Through WFP Aviation and the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), WFP delivered over 13,000 tons of humanitarian aid in 2025 and airdropped an additional 9,400 tons of food into South Sudan’s most isolated areas.

Beyond food, WFP‑managed UNHAS also transported staff from 217 humanitarian organizations, making life‑saving operations possible where no other access exists.

❗️Global shocks don’t stay in markets, they show up in what families can afford to eat.

If the conflict in the Middle East continues and fuel prices remain high, even basic staples will be pushed out of reach for millions, driving acute hunger higher in 2026.
