BrainSigns
BrainSigns is a spin-off company in University of Rome “Sapienza”.

🧠 Neurometric #1 — Mental Workload
How much Mental Workload does a task require?
In complex situations, performance depends not only on what people do, but also on how many mental resources are required to do it.
Mental workload measures exactly this.
When workload is unbalanced, errors, response times, and operational risk increase.
👉 Thanks to EEG signal analysis, it is now possible to measure it objectively.
👉 Mental Workload has a direct impact on operational performance, marketing effectiveness, and decision-making quality.
👉 Measuring it helps design safer and more effective experiences.

🧠 Neurometrics: the missing link in data-driven decision-making.
From drivers to air traffic controllers, from surgeons to marketing professionals: there are contexts where attention, mental workload, and emotions make all the difference.
Today, thanks to brain-computer interface technologies and the measurement of physiological signals, it is possible to objectively analyze people’s psychophysiological state during a specific experience.
💡 No more interpretations, but objective data on how people actually react.
Building on this foundation, by using brain signals, cardiac activity, and skin conductance, BrainSigns has scientifically identified and validated several neurometrics — such as attention, stress, and emotional engagement.
📊 In the next posts, we will explore these neurometrics and their impact on:
✔ operational performance
✔ effectiveness of marketing strategies
✔ optimization of decision-making processes
👉 Understanding human behavior today means generating measurable competitive advantage.

Emotions drive the majority of human decisions, yet their objective measurement remains a critical gap for organisations.
To address this challenge, we have developed and tested an index based on heart rate (HR) and galvanic skin response (GSR), providing a reliable and scalable method to quantify emotional states. The index has been validated in a recent scientific study using positive/neutral/negative video stimuli.
🧠 This approach enables organisations to move beyond subjective
self-reports and:
• capture users' emotional responses in real-world scenarios
• monitor engagement across use cases such as training, wellness, and
immersive experiences
• inform the design of products and services that effectively drive
positive emotional outcomes
🚀 Advancing the ability to quantify and interpret emotions represents a key step toward optimizing user experience and generating measurable business impact.

Back from Laval Virtual 2026, where we had the opportunity to present how neurotechnology can bring concrete value to immersive environments.
A new prototype of mindtooth adapted for Meta Quest VR has been made available to visitors, allowing them to test a game experience modulated in real time based on mental states by BrainSigns Neurometrics.
🧠 At BrainSigns, we focus on leveraging EEG-based passive Brain-Computer Interfaces to make VR/XR experiences more adaptive, measurable, and human-centered. From assessing the sense of presence to evaluating training effectiveness, brain signals enable objective insights into how users truly experience immersive content.
🥽 With Mindtooth Touch EEG system, we bring neurophysiological measurement into real applications. Its integration with VR headsets allows real-time monitoring of cognitive and emotional states, unlocking new opportunities across training, simulation, and user experience design.
🚀 The future of immersive technologies will be defined not only by their ability to engage users, but by their capacity to truly understand them—and turn these insights into actionable value.

🚀 Excited to be heading to Laval Virtual — one of the world's premier XR events!
We'll be there in Brain Products booth for a live demo of mindtooth EEG headset integrated with VR.
Here's how it works:
→ Players wear the EEG headset while immersed in a VR game
→ Our system computes cognitive workload and stress in real time
→ The virtual environment dynamically adapts based on these neurometrics
No controllers, no buttons — just your brain shaping the experience.
This sits at the intersection of neuroscience, game design, and adaptive UX, and we believe it opens doors far beyond gaming: training simulations, mental health applications, human performance monitoring.
Beyond the demo, Vincenzo Ronca will take the stage for a on April 8th at noon: "Decoding the human mind in virtual reality." A deep dive into how neurometrics like vigilance, fatigue, workload and presence are unlocking the next generation of human-aware XR.
🧠 If you're attending Laval Virtual, stop by our booth — we're always happy to put the headset on you and let your brain do the talking.

👨🏻⚕️👩🏻⚕️🩺 A surgical team in the operating room: how synchronized are their minds?
What are the team’s stress levels during the different phases of an operation?
An extremely interesting study analyzed the stress of surgical teams during real operations using the mindtooth device.
The research enabled a complete and multimodal characterization of stress, comparing neurophysiological, biological, and behavioral responses among professionals with different levels of experience and across the various stages of surgery.
🎯 The goal was to validate a multimodal approach and identify objective markers for real-time monitoring of team stress.
⚙️ A particularly relevant aspect is that the study was conducted during real surgical procedures, not simulations, thanks to the Mindtooth Touch EEG system.
The study represents an important step toward understanding team stress dynamics in real-world, highly complex settings.
