Students in Professor Andrea Innamorati’s Sustainable Environments course braved Rome’s heatwave to visit the Museo Orto Botanico di Roma and learn about the city’s ongoing efforts to preserve biodiversity.

Home to more than 3,000 plant species, a Japanese garden, a vineyard, bamboo groves, and historic greenhouses, the botanical garden offered students a unique opportunity to explore the connection between sustainability, conservation, and urban life.

Through this immersive experience, students reflected on the importance of protecting green spaces in one of the world’s most historic cities and gained a deeper understanding of how environmental stewardship shapes the future of urban communities.

Surface Tension opens at Temple University Rome Gallery on June 3 from 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Featuring works by RUFA Master’s students, this juried printmaking exhibition explores how print expands beyond the page into sculpture, installation, and new forms of contemporary expression.

Students in Creative Process in Dance enjoyed a special visit arranged by Temple Rome Art Gallery Director Shara Wasserman to the private studio of artist Massimo Livadiotti.

After touring the studio, students learned more about his collaboration with Respiro Verde Legalberi and the creation of Giardino di Confucio, a botanical garden designed to be shared by the diverse communities living in the neighborhood.

And of course, the afternoon ended with a Roman classic: the famous maritozzi from Regoli Pasticceria.

ARCH 9580 is a 3-credit graduate architecture immersion course in Rome for MA Architecture students, focused on site, context, and the layered history of Roman urbanism. Through onsite lectures, neighborhood walks, sketchbook research, and student-led discussions, students examine Rome from the ancient world to the contemporary city while developing fluency in the systems and forms that shape the built environment.

Today, the group visited Villa Borghese Gardens with Professor Andrew Kranis.

After orientation, some of our May Study Abroad students visited Villa Borghese and the museum — the first of many incredible sites near campus that they will be able to explore during their six weeks in Rome!
