The Italian Federation of Thalassemias, Rare Hemoglobinopathies and Sickle Cell Disease (United ETS) promptly responded to an urgent appeal from the Palestinian patient community, represented by the Thalassemia Palestinian Friends Society (جمعية اصدقاء مرضى الثلاسيميا-فلسطين TPFS-Palestine), with a generous donation of medical devices for the infusion of iron-chelating agents and related disposable supplies, to help address a severe local shortage.

Heartfelt thanks from the coordination group of the Haemo_PAL project (AID 11719), funded by the Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo and coordinated by the National Blood Centre (Centro Nazionale Sangue), whose on field personnel delivered the donation despite the immense challenges posed by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

Special thanks also go to the FORANEMIA Foundation, a Haemo_PAL partner, which supported and contributed to the success of the initiative.

Through this generous act, a strong bond based on shared goals has been established between UNITED and TPFS, reaffirming the transnational brotherhood among patients across different regions and the steadfast commitment to sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices for the protection of patients.

📆 International Thalassemia Day acts as a powerful reminder to raise awareness on this condition and to highlight the importance of equal access to treatment worldwide.
One of the aims of Haemo-PAL project is the improvement of diagnostic pathaways and treatment protocols for patients with thalassaemia and other haemoglobinopathies.
🩸 Ensuring comprehensive care and a better quality of life is crucial, especially in low-income countries with a high prevalence of this disease such as Palestine, where about 4% of the population are known thalassemia carriers.
In these unprecedented times, we are particularly close to the thalassemia patients’ and caregivers’ community in Palestine.
