We were delighted to welcome Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and for Defence Helen Mc Entee to Rome on Monday for a busy programme of official engagements ahead of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, which starts on 1 July 2026 🇮🇪🇪🇺

Minister McEntee exchanged views on current international issues with her Italian counterparts, Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade Antonio Tajani and Minister for Defence Guido Crosetto.

The Minister also met with Professor Enrico Letta to discuss the “One Europe, One Market” roadmap and Ireland’s priorities for its EU Presidency.

💼Minister McEntee was later joined at the Embassy by senior representatives of Irish Italian businesses, alongside Enterprise Ireland, Turismo Irlandese, Bord Bia - Irish Food Board, and the Irish Business Network in Italy for a roundtable discussion on trade, investment and tourism activities and opportunities.

The Embassy was honoured to welcome Taoiseach Micheál Martin to Rome last week for a warm and productive bilateral meeting with PM Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi.

The meeting took place in advance of Ireland’s Presidency of EU Council, which starts on 1 July.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Helen Mc Entee held talks with her 🇮🇹 counterpart Antonio Tajani at the yesterday.

Minister McEntee and Minister Tajani discussed shared priorities, including EU enlargement, competitiveness, security, and the conflicts in Ukraine and Middle East, ahead of 🇮🇪’s Presidency of the 🇪🇺 Council.
