Here’s our Christmas card, except a month late and on Instagram. ✉️

This year instead of getting cancer for Thanksgiving we took a trip to Italy!

In the past I’ve spent my attention on work and busyness and whatever else doesn’t really matter. This trip started a season of real time realignment.

I’m so grateful for these people and the growth over the years. It’s a blessing to have this family. 🇮🇹🍝

Headed down south to celebrate two of our favorite humans and soak up the last of the Summer sun. 🌴

A wise dad told me: take a trip with your kid every year. I listened.

Being present day-to-day is hard — calls in the car, meetings, brain fog. But on a trip? You’re in it with them. Fully. And it’s magic.

Shiloh’s checklist:
☑️ Hike to the Hollywood sign
☑️ Disneyland
☑️ Convertible
☑️ NOBU (wait, what?)
☑️ Movie set tour

My checklist:
☑️ Quality time

Mission = complete.
Doesn’t have to be fancy. Just go. Be with them. They don’t need stuff. They need you.

Also: sunscreen in a convertible is not optional. 🥵

Just got back from an annual trip out west to .
It’s a time to slow down, thaw out, and settle back into who I am and who I want to be.
It’s partly achieved by not having cell service, partly by honest and vulnerable conversations with other men who are courageous enough to go to those places, and partly by just having fun together.
Slowing down and deep introspection is the catalyst for real change, not merely ‘accountability’. That’s necessary, but we have to get to the root of ourselves for lasting change. It’s a slow process at times — sanctification, some would call it.
Refuge is a place I hold special because it lays a path to a clearer picture of myself. When I can sit with who I am, I can then be better for those who are in my life. Chelsea, Shiloh, and those closest to me benefit from that slowing down as much as I do.
Big thanks to all the boys at Refuge who hosted us, those who said yes to a week of fun and introspection, and our wives who wrangled our kids all week so we can attempt to come back better for them.
What a special time. Until next year.

I’m so proud of this girl and her teammates.

Shiloh went to Supercopa in Utah to compete against the best teams in the nation.

The team came up short of a championship, but they all fought their hearts out.

I used to lean on Shiloh hard in sports. I made her cry multiple times as her coach. I walked away from sidelines because I was frustrated. Chelsea would get mad at me because I was so negative while watching. It wasn’t great. She’s a good player on a good team. She’s developing well. But, she’s going to have good games and bad games. Good days and bad days, just like life. It took maturing on my part, but I’ve learned ultimately it’s not about her performance. Now we harp on the controllables — effort. And it makes me tear up because she gives it in spades. She’s undersized(familiar for a 5’8” ex-hooper), but she’s a down right dawg. She just gives it all she’s got and has fun doing it, and watching her do it is a gift God has given me.

Competitive youth sports can be cutthroat. Parents getting into it, players hoping for other players to fail… the whole thing. That’s not the case with this group. These girls, coaches, and families are FOR one another. It’s a blast to be apart of. It’s special.

We’re all learning life lessons along the way and I’m soaking in every second of living life with this little girl.

I have an amazing family. As a bonus, Jesus saw fit that I have a second family, too. This is them. I spent seemingly half my youth at their house. Thanksgiving dinner at Publix, reviewing vocab for tests, hundreds of nights slept over, getting life lessons from an older sister I never had... You can’t make old friends. ♥️

It’s hard to believe, but I’ve never surfed, even with this haircut. 😅
