Years ago my luggage got lost for a good week. New Orleans said Dallas had it and Dallas said it was in NOLA. I literally flew to both locations to try to find it myself. If these were in existence back then, I could have seen where it was without having to take their word for it.

Yes they've gotten a bad name from people using them for the wrong reasons, but they can be incredibly useful as well. Don't let this unfortunate circumstance happen twice!
