✨ What a special Christmas!!! ✨
The PhotoGreen Lab is really proud to announce that two big achievements are taken by two of its members:
🔬 Proud to share that our UP-PLA project has been awarded a FIS2 grant, worth €1.5 million, for the next three years.
Under the premises of UP-PLA, my research team will explore hybrid photo/bio-catalytic strategies for plastic upcycling under sustainable conditions, unlocking innovative solutions toward virtuous management of spent (bio)plastic streams. ♻️
🌈 Moreover, another successful achievement regards:
Dyedauxiliary groups meet catalysis: a colourful approach to organic synthesis (DyedCAT). Deeply Thanking fondazione Cariplo for the 200k to finance the research plans over three years.
The project will merge (new) dyedauxiliary groups with metal catalysis to develop new green synthetical strategies in organic chemistry.

🔥 HOT PAPER 🔥
The work carried out by Lorenzo at Uni Regensburg under the guidance of Burkhard Konig and with the fruitful help of Davide resulted in a dual photocatalytic approach for the functionalisation/aromatisation of cheap and abundant saturated heterocycles into functionalised aromatics compounds. Kinetic, KIE and deuteration studies were carried out for a better understanding of the reaction mechanism. Green metrics of this sustainable approach have been calculated, highlighting the greenness of the protocol with only H2 gas as side product.

PAGZESCO! 😏✨
In this work published with the University of Lille, arylazo sulfones proved to be efficient PAGs (PhotoAcid Generators) for the synthesis of ß-amino alcohols. A broad scope was investigated and detailed mechanistic analysis performed.

In collaboration with the group, we explore how chiral heterogeneous materials are paving the way for enantioselective photocatalysis! ⚗️✨
We highlight the role of advanced chiral materials like:
🔹 MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks)
🔹 COFs (Covalent Organic Frameworks)
🔹 MHP-NCs (Metal Halide Perovskite - Nanocrystals)
These systems show exciting potential as photocatalysts for enantioselective synthesis – opening new frontiers in sustainable chemistry! 🌱💡

Another paper from the collaboration between PGL and the Masson’s group is out. Give it a read if you are interested in the Visible-light-induced Truce-Smiles rearrangement. DFT calculations were performed as well for a better mechanistic insight on this appealing protocol (both in an asymmetric and non-asymmetric fashion).

In this work we developed a platform strategy for the synthesis of five-membered carbo- and heterocycles in continuous flow. The merging of HAT photocatalysis with flow techniques provides a versatile and sustainable approach to afford substituted cyclopentenones, pyrroles and thiophenes, which are also key scaffolds in pharmaceutical chemistry.

In the presentwork we efficiently developed a TBADT photocatalyzed decarbonylative strategy. The fast direct
HAT from aldehydes formyl group and ensuing α-fragmentation of the photogenerated acyl radical (i.e., decarbonylation) is exploited to boost efficiency, redirect regioselectivity, and enable reactivity in methodologies based on HAT. Check it out: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jacsau.5c00530
