Since 2015, Real IES has been supporting lighting designers, interior designers, and game developers with tools for precise photometric lighting.
Today we released version 3.4, a free update that introduces two new user-requested utilities: the Metadata Tool, for safe editing and management of .ies metadata, and Real IES Duo, now fully integrated, enabling the combination of two photometric profiles into a single light emitter.
These new modules open up a world of possibilities for future workflows and extensions, further expanding the Real IES platform while keeping all updates free for our loyal users.

Do you know how many texels you're wasting on your UV map?
To answer this question, we created "UVWaste Calculator". The tool makes this calculation and gives as an output some clear info about the UV mapping efficiency of a 3D model.
The tool shows basic values such as vertex and face counts, amount of UV channels, and - most importantly - texture usage (total texels and VRAM) and texel density (texels per squared unit area). The goal is to help optimize the texture allocation and memory management.
While we use this tool internally at PlaySys to evaluate models for architecture, gaming, and VR, Luca also uses it as a teaching tool to explain the importance of UV optimization to his students at IED and SAE.

This video, narrated in Italian by the developer Luca Deriu , shows how to import and set up a 3D scene for fast processing via path tracing, using Real PBR tool.
The video demonstrates how to import a FBX file, set the environment lighting, create artificial light sources, and define an accurate camera position and aperture for photorealistic results.
Real PBR is an experimental rendering tool currently in public beta and free for any use. Developed and maintained by a solo developer, the tool aims to simplify the everyday rendering process of small interior scenes and products.
