So many Highlights from but a real favourite was the moment of GOLD for Team Canada’s Women’s Team Pursuit. Such a sport of synergy and strategy and team work.
Felt a little like our had our own Team Pursuit going and what a crew to cross the finish line with.
An unforgettable Games!

One week of competition down.
Goes fast!
I’m a bit beginner’s mind about the Olympics, having covered only two.
I’m struck by how moved I am by the falls and the dashed hopes. Then the getting up again, immediately.
Hearts laid bare in front of the world.
No amount of training can prepare for Olympic unpredictability, a kind of undefined element that feels unique to the Games.
No wonder the avalanche of emotion when it does work out.
On the street, I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by the Olympic superfans - the bucket-listers and pin collectors, the volunteers .. who all just seem HAPPY TO BE HERE. There is no context or comparison, just a can’t-believe kind of smile that says - I did it!
Covering the Games feels like you’re on a roller coaster that lasts for weeks. And depending on the vantage point, it’s a different experience.
Up close and personal with the fans and the athletes, so far, it’s been a thrill.

A much needed dose of ❤️
Met a lifelong pin trader today. For those new to Olympics culture, it’s a very popular activity. Some might say it’s unofficial sport of the Olympics.
Those who have been to multiple Games, have a collection of pins that they trade with others. The pins range from past Olympics to country specific insignia.
Up until I met Krassi from British Columbia, I just thought it was a quirky past time in between events.
But in our conversation, he taught me something deeper about the Games.
His first pin was when he was 10 years old. He was hooked.
He tries to go to one big sporting event a year. Hence, the many pins. Most are safe in his home, the ones on his scarf is his currency.
He doesn’t sell them on eBay. He never pays money for them. He’s a trader, pure and simple.
Usain Bolt gave him one.
Every pin is a priceless memory. Every pin is a face, a person with a story.
Krassi was pretty pragmatic about the corporate nature of the Games. Someone has to pay for the training, and the athletes, and the pins :)
But pin trading is free, he reminded me.
And I witnessed for myself the cultural exchange that happens in the process of trading the pins. A conversation, eye to eye contact, a sharing of country and cultural facts.
This is the Olympic legacy, I think. So human. Driven by fans who love to watch other humans, lay their hearts bare, push their spirit to the limit, all on the world stage.
Of course, you don’t show up to interview of pin trader empty-handed.
I got a trade in and didn’t think too hard about my choice.
Per Krassi’s advice -never refuse a trade and always go with the pin that calls to your heart.
Thanks for the capture, my Olympics partner-in-crime 📸

2025 Recap - holding family and work life as a news correspondent almost felt like being in two realities — one that had the daily rhythms of ordinary chaos + moments and the the other was a front row seat to tectonic shifts in society.
Increasingly, this year, I looked to those who could dialogue between the two and those who made the effort seen or unseen to build bridges, trust and meaning.
And to every IRL moment and conversation I had this year, you were LIFE AFFIRMING.
Bringing all those insights and gratitude FORWARD to 2026.
Wishing you grace and peace, as we enter the New Year.

It’s rare these days to have soul affirming exchanges on the news, was so happy to share this one of my memory interviewing the Great who made a living walking people up.
I’ll never forget sitting down with her for tea, so many years ago in Toronto.
Her message was truly her presence.
May her legacy and leadership, live on.

These last two weeks annual gathering of leaders, I’ve sat down with the UN’s human rights chief, its first ever tech envoy on AI, their head of policy, the Israeli ambassador, the Palestinian envoy.
And took in countless speeches and forums with world leaders, from President Zelensky to Donald Trump.
After a long exhausting week, I still wish I could have done more.
The easiest thing to give up on is tough conversations.
The easiest thing to turn away from is thoughtful and respectful debate.
The easiest thing to stop practicing is compromising and resolving and working through differences.
When talking leads to no tangible action, it diminishes the talking over time. Forums like the is at that point and must reform to change that.
But talking is always where it starts. And it’s detrimental never to lose forums in which that’s possible.
