The Verna painting is my first artistic memory. It ignited my curiosity about how art is created, and when I decided to name my collection after it, I knew I had to include a piece of my own childhood.
This collection is a tribute to my time as a rural boy in the Mthatha,Eastern Cape, a time filled with joy, playing in open fields and making things with clay.
This is why the photoshoot for the collection had to take place in the very space where I experienced that joy.

The Verna photograph is a cornerstone of my creative journey my very first artistic memory. After presenting the first part of this collection at Milan Fashion Week last year, I knew it needed something more. I wanted to highlight my home and the person who brought me into this world, my mother, to have them speak about this iconic image that is known across almost all SADC regions: the portrait of Verna, the crying child.
