“[…] Era bello vederlo lavorare, ma non parlava affatto”, ricorda Amendola. “Ma meno si parlava meglio era. Poi ogni tanto si alzava e lasciava lì le scarpe intrise di colore, schizzi, di materia organica.” Nasce da questa assenza una delle foto più interessanti, in bianco e nero, profondamente metafisica: una sedia vuota, attorniata da una serie di tele dipinte. Amendola sembra citare i versi di Attilio Bertolucci: “Assenza, più acuta presenza.” Così, le scarpe ci raccontano tanto di Nitsch. BOX presents “Per filo e per segno. Percorsi di arte tessile in Italia”, an annual exhibition project curated by Alberto Fiz, involving twelve Italian artists from different generations, invited to reflect on the theme of contemporary .

The “Librerie” presented in BUILDING BOX is created using cotton thread wrapped around an iron core to reproduce the outline of a bookshelf mounted on the wall; A series of books, devoid of volume and weight, are arranged on the shelves.

“Libro nero scritta bianca” presents a reversal of elements: the title emphasizes the chromatic inversion compared to the traditional page, where black text appears on white paper. In this case, the black background becomes the page, and the white emerges as a luminous trace.

“Vincenzo Castella. Timeless Archaeology”

“The first room on the ground floor displays my most recent series of works, which stems from an attempt to understand the linearization of time in which we live,” explains artist Vincenzo Castella. “The artworks depict a compression of the cinematic second: they consist of twenty-four frames per second, with each frame measuring 28 × 52 cm, and the sequence extends approximately seven meters in height.”

TERZO PIANO is pleased to present “Chasing Rainbows”, a solo exhibition by Chiara Gambirasio (Bergamo, 1996), curated by Giulia Bortoluzzi.

Through a selection of new paintings, drawings, and sculptures, the artist transforms the gallery’s third floor into an ideal magnetic field: a microcosm of tensions in which light generates energy and movement. The main body of works on view, which activate the exhibition space, results from new productions created by Gambirasio following her artist residency in Iceland (Herhúsið), held from February 26th to April 1st, 2026.

Nothing is predetermined in a project that unfolds based on the suggestions offered by the materials themselves. As the artist states, “The scraps are machine-sewn with colored threads and white cotton selvages that I have deliberately left hanging, clearly visible so that even a breath of air is enough to create an unexpected shift.”

Origami thus retains an entropic component through a series of misaligned elements that develop an autonomy of their own, free from rationalist logic. Pasquali encourages these digressions by allowing herself to be guided by the unexpected geometries suggested by the context and by constructing a constantly shifting balance traversed by folds, ripples, twists, and movements. What emerges, therefore, is a continuous dialectic between constructive order and organic growth, between the precision of craftsmanship and the unpredictability of becoming.

Castella himself, in his first book (“Zone”, 1991), invited the viewer on a stationary journey through zones: “I believe that photography is truly the art of entering the same room multiple times and establishing several distinct focal points within a dimension that, on paper, appears motionless.”
The paratactic value of his images, together with an almost Flemish attention to every detail within a single frame, clearly convey this non-directional conception of time.

“[…]Con Gian Lorenzo Bernini, infine, la sfida di Amendola si sposta sul terreno del movimento. Bernini è il grande illusionista della scultura barocca: in lui la pietra piange, urla, si contorce nell’estasi e nell’agonia, cattura l’istante di massima intensità drammatica e lo sospende per sempre. Fotografarlo significa competere con l’impossibile. Ma sempre attraverso la magia della luce Aurelio riesce a trasmettere un’energia che sembra sul punto di esplodere. Non solo: mette in atto una scelta audace, il movimento nella fotografia lo mette lui, inclinando il punto di vista, scegliendo angoli che moltiplicano i piani, creando una vibrazione ottica che fa tremare la pietra stessa […]”

Through 85 large-format photographs, taken between 1976 and 2025, the exhibition celebrates the most emblematic aspects of the work of Amendola (Pistoia, 1938), a central figure in the field of contemporary art photography, who stands out for his ability to navigate art history and transform light into narrative with a sensitive and intense gaze.

A bilingual (Italian and English) catalog published by Skira has been released in conjunction with the exhibition, presenting Aurelio Amendola’s work through a selection of the pieces on display at Palazzo Reale.

The show invites viewers to interpret this extraordinary body of photographic work through the lens of its own temporality. All these examples of oversized machinery characterized by fluorescent light, displayed at BUILDING GALLERY from the ground floor to the second floor in various formats, offer a truly archaeological approach that highlights the specific nature of memory that informs this body of work, as well as the rest of his oeuvre.
