And for good reason. It has introduced an entirely new generation of collectors to one of the most fascinating and least understood chapters in Audemars Piguet history: the Royal Oak pocket watch.

Long before pocket watches became a marketing concept, Audemars Piguet actually built them.

Introduced in 1979, the Royal Oak Pocket Watch transformed the iconic octagonal design into a fully mechanical object powered by the remarkable ultra-thin calibre 5020. At a time when pocket watches had all but disappeared, AP chose to create something entirely unexpected.

Recent archival research has revealed that just 151 Royal Oak pocket watches were documented across the entire first-generation family between 1979 and 1985, making them among the rarest Royal Oak models ever produced.

Our example is the original yellow-gold ref. 5691, featuring a white tapisserie dial and matching gold chain. Elegant, discreet and almost completely unknown outside serious collecting circles.

As the world rediscovers the Royal Oak pocket watch through the Royal Pop, the originals suddenly feel more relevant than ever.
