They can be converted to be CHIRPS compatible, which would focus the communications and software issues down to a single central system that all parties had access to. Energy suppliers would then be responsible for functionality to customers. Network and generation companies would have different access. Meter vendors would be accountable for security (another serious hiccup, Panorama did not mention) CHIRPS was developed with the manufacturers before smart meters came out and has been working successfully outside the incumbent industry for over 30 years. It should be used within the industry. The sooner the better.
