The Offbeats
A research platform about togetherness in design The Offbeats is a project by d-o-t-s .
“Designing is about making sense, or finding solutions, together”
[John Forester]
Inspired by Forester’s statement, The Offbeats looks at alternative initiatives that put creative collaboration at the heart of the design process. Through past and present examples it promotes collectiveness as a powerful engine for the improvement of society.

Paris is celebrating May 1968, the series of popular events that shook the French capital 50 years ago!
While the Palais de Tokyo has left the walls of its facade into the hands of artists Escif and Paul Loubet, the Centre Pompidou is taken over by artists, children, students and academics for a three-week long staged occupation. During this period, graphic designer Philippe Lakits will create a 60-metre long fresco in the museum’s Forum, whilst general assemblies and performances will be held around Cavea, the nomadic structure developed by French designer Olivier Vadrot.
Make sure to rediscover the works of Vadrot on The Offbeats >> http://www.the-offbeats.com/articles/theatre-build-democracy-cavae-koilon-olivier-vadrot/

"[...] conviviality and doing things together with our community [...] do much more than produce innovative ideas: [...] a meaningful social life is actually the prime reason for a longer and happier life."
We are happy to share the short article produced by Designatlarge.it about the vision of architect & curator Joseph Grima (of Space Caviar) for the "redesign" of the Design Academy Eindhoven and for the cultural programme of Matera 2019.

Currently on show at the .dalbertis, in Genoa (Italy), the exhibition “Foroba Yelen, nights of light in Mali” is dedicated to the homonymous community lighting project realised by Italian architect Matteo Ferroni in the rural areas of Mali.
We visited the show and met with Ferroni to understand better how the idea originated and where it is now headed to.

"What a shame that nowadays we city dwellers are just so unused to fire, afraid of it even whereas in many other parts of the world it is still an intrinsic part of daily life – to cooking in particular." wrote Julia Georgallis - founder of The Bread Companion.
You can read about her experience with fire cooking at Designers On Holiday on her blog >>
The Bread Companion Cooking with Fire ‘The sea and a fire’ my mum and I agree, whilst doing some clandestine cauliflower smoking in my dad’s garage using my portable wood oven. I’m not supposed to light my fire there because it alarms the neighbours. But we’re doing it anyway, hoping no one notices. The sea and fire, we say, w...

Quick City USA - In recent years, pop-up cities and urban laboratories - such as Les Grands Voisins in Paris - have underlined the importance of communal alternatives and solutions within the normalised cities. Far from being a novelty though, these initiatives have many forerunners - some more utopian than others - of which Whiz Bang Quick City surely is one of them.
