Atelier Biagetti
Alberto Biagetti and Laura Baldassari create work that blurs the lines between art, design, and architecture.
Inspired by human behavior and society’s obsessions, they reinvent objects and spaces as immersive, thought-provoking scenes. The Milan based atelier that operates in the fields of art, design and architecture creating objects, interiors and site-specific installations.

Name: Alphabet
Findspot: Mars, Elysium Planitia
Context: Inner Chamber
Typology: N°3 Core Units
Description:
Set of three solid objects in the form of a cube, sphere, and pyramid, manufactured from a refined aluminum-based alloy. Each unit consists of a rigid shell that opens along a precise seam, revealing an internal cavity containing a candle.
The surfaces are smooth and geometrically defined, emphasizing their primary forms. Each object features an engraved laurel logo on the exterior, subtly marking its origin and identity.
The contrast between the metallic enclosure and the internal flame defines the object’s function, transforming it from a closed volume into a controlled light source through interaction.

Level 0 — The Lab
Welcome to the place where the exploration of MCM’s past and future begins.
Conceived as a laboratory orbiting through the galaxy, THE LAB brings together the history of the brand and a series of limited-edition objects designed by Atelier Biagetti.
Imagined as tools to explore and inhabit new planets, these objects travel through time and project themselves into the future:
Orbit — a companion robot-pouf;
Gravity — a training weight for a body in zero gravity;
Mach-1 — a helmet to cross the speed of sound;
Alphabet — a collection of Bauhaus-inspired candles conceived as small lights to keep our coordinates during starry nights.
The atmosphere is shaped by a sound composition made of acoustic signals, protocols and spatialized mechanical rhythms, evoking a technological environment orbiting through space.
From here, the exhibition unfolds across two further levels, imagined like a video game: the Rotonda del Pellegrini becomes a spacecraft crossing different worlds.
Level 1 — DISCO MARS opens into a roller-skating rink animated by a robot DJ, where disco energy, human bodies and robotic presences coexist.
Level 2 — DIVA DOME becomes a ritual space in zero gravity, where the operatic voice enters an almost post-human dimension, becoming a portal between past and future.
“With Disco on Mars we wanted to explore the aesthetics of space travel and turn them into a metaphor for freedom. Objects are not merely products, but collectible narrative devices, memories of a possible future, elements to be explored and activated, while sound unfolds as an invisible architecture, shaping the spatial experience.”

Findspot: Mars, Elysium Planitia
Context: Pressurized living module
Typology: Resistance device
Description:
Modular object composed of two circular, padded volumes connected by a central cylindrical element. Each end presents a segmented, cushion-like structure, resembling inflated rings or compact planetary forms.
The object appears symmetrical and balanced, suggesting controlled rolling and resistance. Its morphology evokes both a weight and a wheel, positioning it between exercise equipment, mobility device, and interactive domestic tool.
The padded surface, defined by visible stitching, creates a tactile and skin-like quality consistent with other soft domestic artifacts from the same environment. The central connection functions as a grip or axis, enabling lifting, rolling, and rotational use.

The Rotonda del Pellegrini, a 16th-century Milanese architectural landmark just behind the Duomo, defined by its central plan and circular geometry, becomes an integral part of the project: an orbital vessel imagined as a spacecraft, where each floor corresponds to a different condition of experience.
The installation unfolds across three distinct levels, which can be read both as a progression and as an open system. Visitors are free to move through these environments, activating personal connections, like a series of sliding doors, where each passage generates a different narrative configuration.
The journey suggests a crescendo: from the Lab, a space of observation and control where the history of the MCM brand intertwines with a new collection of objects, to Disco Mars, conceived as a collective device in which human bodies and robotic presences share the same space, and finally to the Diva Dome, a suspended, ritual dimension where gravity dissolves and a monumental sculpture enters into dialogue with the human voice.
Disco on Mars is conceived as an experiential environment where the aesthetics of space travel become a metaphor for freedom. Here, sound acts as an invisible architecture that structures perception, while opera is transposed into a post-human dimension.
Within this system, objects become collectibles and narrative devices, artifacts of a possible future through which one accesses different layers of experience. Body and technology are reinterpreted within a transitional space where temporalities collapse, opening new scenarios.
Rather than abandoning function, design today is the discipline that redefines it.

Context: Settlement find
Typology: Mobility device
Description:
Soft pouf characterized by a volumetric, segmented body and two prominent ear-like appendages emerging from its upper structure.
Unlike standard seating units, this object appears to function not only as furniture but as a companion entity within the domestic environment. The ear-like forms may serve as handles, sensory extensions, or symbolic features suggesting interaction, presence, or responsiveness. The stitched surface creates a skin-like texture, reinforcing the impression of a semi-animated object. Mounted on small rotating wheels, the pouf suggests autonomous or assisted mobility, enabling it to follow or accompany inhabitants within the habitat.
Its morphology and detailing indicate a design evolution where utility merges with emotional or social function, possibly addressing isolation in extraterrestrial living conditions.

Level 1: Disco Mars
This level brings visitors to the heart of the experience: a roller-skating rink overseen by a robot
DJ, in partnership with global technology leader ABB, playing music curated by
Sound transforms with a more human pulse created by disco’s energizing, superficial exuberance.
Thumping with this vibe, the arena turns into a dance floor populated by human and robots alike, with choreographed performances throughout the week. The space serves as a playful short-circuit between eras where the pop culture of MCM’s
origin years collides headfirst with a new dimension, light years away.
A journey that challenges the concepts of time and space by transforming the Rotonda del Pellegrini in the heart of Milan into a three-level video-game-style spaceship soaring towards the Red Planet.

What will the objects of the future look like? What will we truly need?
With Disco on Mars, we explore the aesthetics of space travel as a metaphor for freedom, imagining life on a new planet — a place where our bodies, habits, and needs have evolved.
Objects are no longer just products, but narrative devices: fragments of a possible future, memories waiting to be activated, while sound unfolds as an invisible architecture, shaping both space and experience.

Name: Mach-1
Findspot: Mars, Elysium Planitia
Context: Habitat Unit 06 | EVA preparation area
Typology: Wearable object
Description: Rigid protective helmet composed of a metallic shell with a complex, segmented superstructure extending outward from the main body. The upper section is formed by a series of articulated, blade-like elements arranged in a radial configuration, creating a canopy that partially envelops the head.
The structure suggests a high-performance alloy construction, engineered to provide impact resistance and environmental shielding. The segmented extensions may function as protective deflectors, thermal dissipators, or radiation shields, increasing the surface area and modulating exposure to external conditions.
A reinforced lower frame defines the opening and anchoring system, likely interfacing with a suit collar or support structure. The overall form balances mass and distribution, indicating careful consideration of weight, stability, and mobility in reduced gravity conditions.

Bodybuilding , a sculptural tribute to discipline, power and the language of sport.

We are pleased to announce that the playground designed by Alberto Biagetti has become part of the permanent collection of the Benaki Museum in Athens.
Created for ART for the WORLD organization, Flying Mandala is a visionary playground, a circular space where play and imagination merge into a collective ritual. At its heart lies a central element that, when activated together by the participants, sets the whole structure in motion.
The architecture of flowers, trees, and greenery is conceived as an educational and social tool, providing an environment where children and adults can explore cooperation, responsibility, and care.
Flying Mandala is part of Playgrounds & Toys is a collection, curated by Adelina von Fürstenberg. Launched in 2000, the project explores the profound connection between play and human development through the creation of playgrounds in meaningful locations around the world.
