We found out at 'Localization Unplugged — Voices Behind Global Growth', the unconference we co-hosted with Spotify in Milan last week. Diego Cresceri, Giulia Barbieri and Mariapaola Dell'Orto were there for Creative Words.

The conversation moved between two big themes: proving the value of localization to executives, and how AI is really being used in localization teams today. We talked about KPIs, about quality in a broader sense than language quality, about the role localization can play across departments, and about AI as a tool for strategy and decisions as well as for language workflows.

He'll be taking the stage in the first session of Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) Academy's new event series, "Vendor Management After the AI Wake-Up Call," alongside other professionals in the field, on September 15.

Starting January 20, 2027, a translated manual is not a translation anymore. It's the instructions, full stop.

For almost 20 years, manufacturers exporting machinery into the EU could rely on a disclaimer: if the translation had an error, the "original" version was the one that counted in a dispute. That protection is going away.

The new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 removes the distinction entirely. Every language version now carries the same legal weight.
