Set design by Anna Bonomelli - Villa Belcanto became a living architecture of memory, where space and voice met on the same stage.

The set didn’t simply frame the performance: it held the emotion of the artists, turning architecture into part of the storytelling itself.

30 May at Teatro Regio di Parma: where voices, faces and stories briefly became one living presence on stage.

Seven artists, seven different worlds, held together by the same breath of theatre: Mariam Suleiman, Anna-Helena MacLachlan, Vuyisa Xipu, Taylor Wallbank, Benjamin Gautier, Charles Buttigieg, and Ferdinand Muradyan.

A triumph from start to finish.
On Saturday evening, the Mascarade Opera Artists took to the stage at Teatro Regio di Parma, accompanied by the Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna under the baton of Maestro Wyn Davies, holding the audience in its spell from the very first moment.

Thank you to everyone who made VILLA BELCANTO possible, and thank you to all who joined us for this unforgettable evening.

In bocca al lupo to Floriana Cicio as Violetta in Una Traviata da cortile at Teatro Regio di Parma! ✨

This immersive reimagining of Verdi’s masterpiece transforms Verdi’s La traviata into a living, collective experience where audience and performers share the same space through music, storytelling and celebration, conceived by Alessandro Baricco.

A member of Mascarade Opera 2022/2024, Floriana has since continued to shine in an exciting range of roles across the operatic repertoire, including Eugenia in B. Galuppi’s Il Filosofo di Campagna at the Winter Theater in Sochi, Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen at Teatro Politeama in Lecce, Rita in Donizetti’s Rita at the 2024 Ticino Music Festival in Lugano, and Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Teatro “G. Puccini” in Merano, as well as concert appearances with the Cameristi del Teatro alla Scala. She later performed in productions at Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, including Margherita in Alfredo il grande (Donizetti) and Tavecchi in Il piccolo compositore di musica (Mayr). Earlier in her career she appeared as Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Bologna and Carpi, Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola in Modena, and in world premieres such as I Kattivissimi (S. Passantino) in Trapani and La Notte di Natale (A. Cara) in Savona and Modena. In 2024 she won First Prize at the 37th “Gaetano Zinetti” International Competition in Sanguinetto, and in 2023 received Second Prize at the “Maria Caniglia” International Competition in Sulmona.

Do you remember last year’s set design at Teatro della Pergola in Florence?
This year the space changes, but the emotion remains the same. The set design is once again by Anna Bonomelli.

Set in a luxury clinic suspended between the 1920s and 1940s, Villa Belcanto transforms a place of memory: no longer a private, idealised space, but a living community where youth, maturity and old age coexist and reflect one another.

At the moment, the set is taking shape, coming alive with detail, light and atmosphere. It will be one of the visual centres of this new production, at Teatro Regio di Parma, on Saturday 30 May.
