Have you ever tasted Tuscan bread? It is a completely salt-free, naturally leavened bread with a thin, crisp crust. It has been produced in Tuscany since ancient times, as testified by the writings of Titus Livius.
It is used in the preparation of many typical dishes such as Panzanella and Ribollita and is an excellent accompaniment to Tuscan cold cuts. It is protected by the Consorzio di Promozione e Tutela del Pane Toscano a Lievitazione Naturale. It is a unique speciality, perfect to accompany the area's typical cured meats and cheeses.

🌸 Known by the conventional name of Spring, the painting shows nine figures from classical mythology striding across a flowering meadow, in front of a forest of orange and laurel trees. In the right foreground, Zephyrus embraces and fertilises the nymph Clori, depicted a little further on in the guise of Flora, goddess of blossom. Dominating the centre of the composition, slightly set back, are the goddess of love and beauty Venus, chastely dressed, and Cupid, depicted blindfolded as he fires his love dart. Dancing in a circle on the left are the three Graces, minor benevolent deities close to Venus, and the composition is closed by Mercury, the messenger of the gods wearing a helmet and winged shoes, who touches a cloud with his caduceus. Although the complex meaning of the composition remains mysterious, the work celebrates love, peace and prosperity.

It is not every day that one receives a parade shield with a Medusa painted by Caravaggio as a gift. This, however, is what happened to Ferdinand I Grand Duke of Tuscany (1549-1609) on 25 July 1598.
We all know the legend. Medusa had been transformed by Athena into a monster whose hair was a tangle of vipers and whose gaze petrified every living thing. However, the hero Perseus defeated her, managing to avoid her gaze. And Caravaggio made her immortal, in this splendid circular painting.
You can see it at the Uffizi in Florence.

Grape harvesting in Tuscany usually takes place between September and October and has been one of the most exciting events in country life since ancient times.
In Tuscany, the grape harvest is the most evocative moment to visit a farm and its vineyards. One feels like a participant with the farmer and his family in this fascinating event in which the process of making good wine begins.
Tourists often ask when the grape harvest takes place, but it is not possible to establish this in advance, because every year you have to wait for the moment when the grapes reach the right degree of ripeness. But if you are lucky enough to be in Tuscany during the grape harvest, we assure you it will be the most magical experience of your life.

San Galgano, the power of ruins.
San Galgano Abbey is a crumbling Cistercian abbey in the municipality of Chiusdino (Siena), of which only the walls are visible today. It is an unusual destination: an open-air abbey, inside which you can see the Hermitage of Montesiepi, that is linked to a fascinating story. It is said, in fact, that the knight Galgano Guidotti, after a life of debauchery, dedicated himself to penitence and hermitism right on the hill of Montesiepi, where he drove his sword into the ground. You can still admire it today inside the hermitage. Visiting the abbey is even more fascinating at sunset or nightfall, when it offers truly unique suggestions.

The world is full of copies of Michelangelo's David. In Florence you can see the original, but there are reproductions all over the world, from London to Kentucky. In Florence alone you will find two, one in Piazza della Signoria and one at Piazzale Michelangelo.
Did you know that it weighs almost 6 tonnes and has been damaged several times over the years?
The worst accident was on 26 April 1527 when in Florence, as a mob of rioters threw furniture at the soldiers outside the Palazzo Vecchio, a chair hit David's left arm and broke it in three places. No plaster for him, but three copper nails and he was as good as new.
The last incident was in 1991 when a madman destroyed a toe on his left foot with a hammer. The toe was also later reconstructed.
