​Almost every corner, building or street in Florence gives you an opportunity to find something new every day.
High on the left side of the facade of Santa Maria Maggiore Church, there is is a stone head embedded in the tower, the Forentines call it "La Berta.”
What is her history? Two are the most well-know version:
The first a bit supernatural says that in the 1327 a scientist and humanist, was sentenced to death by the Inquisition Court. As he walked towards the ex*****on, passing in front of this church, he asked for water. The woman denied it and Cecco d'Ascoli cursed her saying "And you will never get your head out of here". So it was that the woman was instantly petrified.
The less magical version tells that is the face portrait of a woman who donated with her savings a bell to the church . To thanks her, the citizens immortalized her face in the in the cathedral.

Quasi ogni angolo, edificio o strada di Firenze ti dà l'opportunità di trovare qualcosa di nuovo ogni giorno.
In alto sul lato sinistro della facciata della chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore, vi è una testa di pietra incastonata. "La Berta" lo chiamano i Fiorentini.
Qual è la sua storia? Due sono la versione più accreditate:
Il prima, un po' soprannaturale, afferma che nel 1327 Cecco d'Ascoli, scienziato ed umanista venne condannato a morte dal tribunale dell'Inquisizione. Mentre camminava verso il patibolo, passando davanti a questa chiesa, chiese dell'acqua. La donna gliela negò e l'uomo le lanciò una maledizione dicendo "E tu di lì il capo non caverai mai". Fu così che la donna fu immediatamente pietrificata.
La versione meno magica racconta che è il ritratto del volto di una donna che ha donato con i suoi risparmi una campana alla chiesa. Per ringraziarla, i cittadini hanno immortalato il suo volto nella cattedrale.
