I help and support new and experienced EFL teachers to develop their teaching expertise and support

15/05/2025

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry for writing such a random message. Cambridge has asked me to look into writing with primary learners. Do you have any teachers who work in primary schools who could answer a few questions for me? If you could forward this message and ask them to reply to my e-mail [email protected], I would appreciate it.
1. Are digital devices used in class?
2. How much writing (in English) is done in the primary context? (Every lesson, once a week…)
3. If done on paper, what happens to the work? Where does it end up?
4. Could you share any samples of good, bad, or ugly written work with me? (Photos, to be kept confidentially). Any response would be great.

Thank you so much.

All the best

Jane

How do you help your learners become better readers? This week I am delighted to be talking with Sandy Millin about what successful readers do and how we can better support our learners. Sandy has wide-ranging experience as a teacher trainer, a CELTA trainer, a DipTESOL tutor, and working with teachers worldwide on many different projects and through many different platforms. She is passionate about CPD and has strong views about how we need to provide better training for newly trained teachers, particularly when teaching skills such as reading.

Sandy is an IATEFL Ambassador, runs her own Delta Module 1 and Module 3 courses and offers consultancy and bespoke workshops and training courses. She writes materials for methodology courses and English for teachers and volunteers on the IATEFL Materials Writing Special Interest Group (MaWSIG) committee. She regularly runs workshops and presents at conferences, both online and face-to-face.

How much time do you allocate to feedback on activities in the classroom? How do you get feedback from your learners? Tomorrow I am joined by Sue Swift to discuss this and other things we can do to better support our ELT Learners.
Sue recently retired but worked in EFL and communications skills training for over 50 years and is an author of a number of EFL textbooks, both for the global and Italian state school markets.
An approved trainer and, for twenty years, an assessor for the Cambridge English Delta course running both online and F2F courses for the various modules.
Her blog http://eltnotebook.blogspot.com/ is full of resources, and thought-provoking notes for teachers preparing to take the Cambridge DELTA, and further support can be found at http://thedeltacourse.blogspot.com/
